I went supermarket shopping today and had the rudest teenage boy as a cashier...
I carefully check all teh cans before I biuy them to be sure they are free of dents and dings. he was throwing them down the belt so they wer smashing into one another despite the fact that I was bagging as quickly as I could . Finally I said, "Please, could you be more gentle? You are going to dent the cans"
He replied by picking up a can of corn and hurling it down the belt so hard that it dented a can of potatoes (I was purchasing about 40 different cans of veggies, soup, potatoes etc as our church food pantry is running very low on those items)
At that point I said." OK. Stop. Look waht you just did to this can"
his answer? " I can't help it if they bump up against each other, it's not my fault"
The he picked up a bag of apples held them a foot above the plastic bag and let it drop so it smashed against the metal counter and with the other hand grabbed a loaf of bread in the middle giving in a nice hourglass shape before hurling it at the cans.
I did something I never did before, I said "That's it, I'm done here" and walked away from 30 minutes of shopping
I went to the manager and reported this 15 year old punk kid who was going to teach me that I had no business criticizing his work performance
I had that job intehat very store for two years, many years ago, back in those prehistoric days when we needed to ring up each item by pressing little buttons and count and figure the change, and pack those brown paper bags so they were "squared" and not likely to burst.
I have also been shopping in that store several times a week for the past 30 years and have been known over the years to stop at the managers office to praise particularly helpful employees so the manager knew me and knew I had never complained about an employee before.
I hope they made him put every item back on the shelves himself.
I just feel badly for the customers behind me whom I inconvienced by walking away.
