As for the Topic of the Day...

"Trouble in Tahiti" - especially the closing moments.

"Arias & Barcarolles" - This song cycle is written for two singers and two pianists at one piano (piano duet).  I performed this in a concert where it was paired with "Trouble in Tahiti".  A quite wonderful evening of music.

"Prelude, Fugue and Riffs" - The original recording with Benny Goodman really swings!  However, there's a recording done by members of the Berlin Philharmonic which has to be one of the "straightest", least hip performances ever put on record.

So that's what it looks like in the daylight. I've only been there at night.

I didn't recognize it with all the parking spaces.

Thank you George.  I really hate one can't obtain their own personal test results over the phone.  It seems a doctor shouldn't have the right to withhold the information if you want it.

I agree with you, Jane. It seems cruel to expect a patient to wait until the next appointment. Such anxiety!

You don't see any cars in front of the building, do you? Those, my dear, are parking spaces!

I see that new DR Cows is/are logged on. Welcome, DR Cows! Please tell you about yourselves. Have you read the Kritzer trilogy yet? Do you collect all of BK's CDs? Inquiring minds want to know.

Speaking of inquiring minds, where the h*** is Music Guy?

...And you know the weather is bad in NYC when there's no one in line at Magnolia Bakery.  It really was kind of spooky when I walked in - I was the only customer in the shop.  However, a few minutes later, a rush of people came in - I guess one of the movies had just gotten out around the block.

My PC is home again - sans burner (which I'm hoping may be replaced under warranty).

I watched all of the bonus features on the PIERROT LE FOU supplemental disc. There was an hour documentary on the love affair, marriage, and divorce of Godard and leading lady Anna Karina which was very interesting and the best bonus in the set.

There's a very pretentious love letter to the film from a French critic and professor that would give Dr. Drew Casper some competition. It was 35 minutes long and very hard to sit through.

I enjoyed the changes in the Hollywood round of IDOL, but I certainly did not agree with some of the people sent through to the top 50. I couldn't believe they'd rave about people who were certainly singing flat, screeching, or noodling around the melody without actually SINGING IT.

Best change - getting rid of the group singing which I always found unfair and more about personalities meshing than actual singing. It's one-on-one singing as it should be.

Truth be told: I heard no one that immediately floored me with vocals. Of course, we still haven't heard everyone sing. I saw people jumping up and down but never heard them sing a note tonight. So, the real interest will start next week when we get to hear all of the men and women chosen for the semifinals.

Then I watched tonight's BOSTON LEGAL. Scott Bakula guest starred and sang a lovely rendition of perhaps my favorite song from a flop Broadway show - "Once Upon a Time" from ALL AMERICAN.

Oh!...

I did make it to Barnes & Noble for the Nancy Lamott CD/DVD release event.  It was packed. In fact, by the time I got there, there were no more seats and no more standing room in the events room, so I and a bunch of other people stood outside the room looking and listening in.  Kathie Lee Gifford, Lucie Arnaz, David Friedman and Christopher Marlowe were the main members of the panel.  Lucie Arnaz sang ("Help Is On the Way"), and they all shared stories and memories of Nancy Lamott, as well as showed clips from the new DVD compilation.  -And I also found out tonight that Ms. Gifford is writing a screenplay for a biopic on Nancy Lamott.

I watched a DVD from EBAY this evening...the film in question:

WAR OF THE SATELLITES from Allied Artists in 1958.  I also finished up MADAME X.....which is a great double feature with PORTRAIT IN BLACK.
