I finished the bonus features for THE LAST EMPEROR. One was a 45 minute history lecture about what was going on in China during the years that the emperor was alive (many of the historical events that are only touched on in the movie since the emperor is the focal point.) The history part was informative, but 45 minutes of non-stop talking was a bit much.

I have very little interest in a movie version of the Lloyd Webber SUNSET BLVD. but I think Barbra Streisand is HIDEOUS casting. Just because she sang two of Norma's arias on her BACK TO BROADWAY CD doesn't not make her great casting for the movie.

However, if they cast John Barrowman as Joe, I might consider seeing it.

I had about 20 minutes before the start of IDOL, so I put in the STRANGE CARGO DVD, and watched the "Crawford and Gable" featurette on it. Not as interesting as the other two featurettes in the set (CRAWFORD AT WARNERS and CRAWFORD AND TORCH SONG).

I guess I already knew all they had to tell about Gable and Crawford.

I was very underwhelmed by the male talent on tonight's AMERICAN IDOL. No voice had distinction, a few were noticeably terrified, and nothing stood out as better than ordinary. As usual, the judges praised singing that was clearly off the mark, and sometimes ragged on singers who gave decent performances for petty reasons.

Unless some of the women come up with something special tomorrow night, this may be a season to skip regardless of all the pre-season hype about this being the best talent ever.

BOSTON LEGAL had fairly irritating cases tonight all handled by the secondary women on the show (and Clarence). A very poor episode, I thought.

Well, the professor doing the talking was dealing with facts. I'm not sure Fox News does likewise.

Personally, I find SB a better example of ALW's writing, but that's just me.

BS is too old to play Norma.

John Barrowman skinny-dipping in Norma's pool would be wonderful!   ;D

But I may just have to stop now. I didn't sleep too well last night. It wasn't the siren from the ambulance at 4:30 AM that got me so much it was that it stopped very close to my house.  I heard it drive past without the siren running, but it woke me up out of a deep sleep the second it quit

JJ is doing fine.  I went down with some water, but what "she" wanted was scritches and loving.  The contortions that cat can get into!  And "her" motor was running the entire time, of course - she only gave a few truly audible purrs, but they were appreciative.

It may take a while before we can introduce her to the rest of the family.  Earlier, der B was on the verge of bringing her upstairs, and her reaction was a very definitive "no thank you."

If she's going to stay, take it slowly. It took me 6 weeks with Boo, but it was worth it, and that was just introducing her to another cat
