My Drew Casper fantasy:  his loose fitting dentures pop out of his mouth while he is spewing some inanity.

Good morning, all!  I'm starting to feel that the battle with mites and bugs is over, I've got to be vigilant and regular in my attacks on them from now on, but  this is one of  the few bits of positive thoughts I've had in the past week, which has been needlessly fraught and tense.

The 1980s are my least favorite decade for motion picturs...if we include TV movies I would list:

SUMMER GIRL

AN EARLY FROST

but if we are sticking to theatrical motion pictures then I think my list will be:

LISA (1989) starring D.W. Moffett

I can't think of any other 80s movies that I like.

MattH, what, if anything, do you know/think about the new Samsung dual format DVD player that does HD-DVD and BluRay?  I have a 10% off coupon from eBay and there are a bunch listed there for under $500, so I'm thinkin' about it.   ;D

Vibes for DR elmore. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`

On tv for me tonight (mostly at the same time): IDOL, BIG BROTHER, and DWTS.

Sort of annoyed that the last new episode of ONE TREE HILL is not on for me. I don't get the WB. And the station i watch it on (sun tv) showed 2 reruns last night but have nothing for the new episode.

My sis who does get the WB said she'd save it for me.

The last of the visitors left this morning, when our niece (who will be attending Reed this fall) ventured out to take the bus to San Francisco.  It's kind of nice to have the house to ourselves again.

I've read pretty good things, but since I'm getting ready to go downstairs in a second, let me scan through my home theater magazines and see what I can turn up before you buy.

I do know the reviews have all said that the Samsung combination Blu-ray/HD-DVD player is superior to the one LG put out. But I'll do some checking for you and get back to you in a little while.

Well...

The Polticos urged Barak Obama to sidestrp the "rae issue"

He decided, instead, to confront it head on.

His speech in Philadelphia hit the ball squarely out of the park.

"Reasonable" people will be assuaged/convinced - and for the others there is no hope.

"Issues" aside, if your want a new leader for the 21st Century this is the man.

For some of us the "T"  stands for "Tirade".

For JMK:

Your suggestion yesterday that my Republican chip might have been implanted a Bear Lake is way off-base.

I was working in the Philadelphia Eisenhower headquarters in 1956.

However, the chip may have received a tune up.

DR JMK,

Some preliminary findings.

The only one of my mags that had a review of the Samsung BD-UP5000 had a preproduction model which they did give initial very positive feelings about though there were some problems which Samsung convinced them would be worked out before shipping the finished model.

According to user reviews I've read, some of those caveats have not been fully addressed yet including not being able to decode the latest HD audio formats: Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. True, there could be firmware upgrades that solve these problems, but none are on the horizon as of yet. There were some sound sync issues, too, that some folks had (including the original reviewer).

Nothing whatsoever wrong with the picture quality playing either HD source or regular DVDs, but those glaring audio shortcoming would make me wait for either definite firmware solutions before buying or simply waiting for a later model (if Samsung does a later model).

TOTD:
Breaking Away
Reds
The Milagro Beanfield War
Sophie's Choice
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
The Mission
Room With A View
Hope And Glory
Daniel
Laputa - Castle In The Sky

Well, I thought knowing the abbreviation would help me, but it doesn't. The topic of the day is...this list of movies? Is Tom throwing out all of these to discuss in terms of what ties them all together, or are we to discuss them piecemeal, or what? I am ashamed to say I have only seen Raiders. Well, I only remember Raiders. I saw Reds when it first came out and was bored by it.
