I wish they would do that more here in this area. THe local NBC affiliate will rebroadcast previous installments of Conan and Jay Leno. However we have Informercial "heck" on the other two. I would rather see an hour or two of Oprah instead of informercials.

I started to watch Sergeant's Three on TCM and promptly fell asleep for an hour. Prior to that, I re-entered my fixes on the new galley with the non-ragged right side - much neater, and I'm now halfway through finding widows, orphans, and bad breaks. Not all that many, frankly.

I began my evening by finishing MURDER SHE SAID. Always enjoy it even though I've probably seen it 25 or 30 times in my life. It's like comfort food. You know what it's going to be and it never disappoints.

Next, I watched THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. I had seen it before when it first appeared on HBO-HD, but they had compromised the aspect ratio by reformatting it to 1.78:1, so this was my first time seeing the entire wide frame image. Pretty spectacular special effects. Story is fairly lame, but it has a first rate cast, and the combination of spectacular Blu-ray picture and DTS-HD Master Audio sound made for a VERY involving movie. Reference quality stuff for video and audio.

I continued getting my Jake Gyllenhaal fix by rewatching portions of BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN while I waited for 10 p.m. to arrive. Always a pleasure watching his award winning work in this movie. (He won the BAFTA Best Supporting Actor award for his performance).

I watched the last four minutes of AMERICAN IDOL.

The winner came as no surprise (as I said, he'd been the leader for the last two months), but I was fairly disgusted with Simon Cowell. I don't for a minute believe he "recanted" his opinion a bit without some inside information. I think as one of the producers, he was tipped off as to the winner, and not wanting to appear as if he couldn't pick the right winner, tried to go back on his opinions of the night before.

His ego got the best of him, I think.

CSI: NY had an excellent season ending episode except, like many shows this season, left it with a real cliffhanger and NO resolution at all. See you guys back in September. You'll be the only CSI show I'll be watching next season.

Great set, good voices, costumes appropriately distressed...the only distraction (and not in a good way) was this one moment when one of the chorus guys comes out from under a table and you see his very wide and very bright band from his Calvin Cline underwear sticking out from under his pants.
