Back from a mostly fun closing performance. Great audience (full), lots o' big laughs, and a standing ovation. All that said, there are at least two actors in this company that I would never ever work with again - one of them just couldn't ever get it together, and the other, who gave a terrific performance up through the second performance and then began changing everything and having it progressively become more cartoonish and therefore less funny, and, when given explicit notes not to do it, he kind of went back to the better performance for a couple of shows, but last week it was back to cartoon land and today was just painful to watch, at least for me. This is a person who does not trust the material in any way, shape, or form, even though it served beautifully and the person's reviews were great. Again, I think it's part of this theater's vibe that actors just do this. Not in my shows they don't, not if they ever want to work with me again. Also, if an actor was doing this in a Broadway show or even an Equity show, he'd shape up or be fired, it's that simple.
