One other comment about seeing THE WIZARD OF OZ in conjunction with some Martin & Lewis movie. When I went to the movies that afternoon, it was ONLY to see M & L (I had a crush on Dean Martin). I had no idea THE WIZARD OF OZ was even going to be showing. And I'm sure I hadn't ever seen it before that day at the movies. I know it premiered on TV in 1956, and that was likely the year I saw it at the movies (it was reissued in 1955-56), but I suspect I didn't see it on TV until its next broadcast because I know it saw it at the movies before I ever saw it on TV.

Someone on one of those theater boards RAVED about Showboat - said it was the most brilliantly brilliant Showboat.

Back from the dress rehearsal for SHOW BOAT, tonight's Carnegie Hall concert. Tonight's audience is in for a treat. The cast is large and quite good, the music is mostly well-handled, although a couple of tunes are way too fast, "Queenie's Ballyhoo" and the cakewalk music for "Goodbye My Ladylove." I wonder if that's Gemignani or Robert Longbottom? As a concert it leaves the tres-lousay CAMELOT in the dust. I had a great time, and I saw lots of friends running from the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization to the Bratislava gay porn industry. On a sad note, I saw my friend Charlie Harmon, who was Leonard Bernstein's personal assistant; he's selling his co-op and relocating to Alabama to become an orchestra librarian for one of the symphonies. I will miss him.

Wuorinen's opera of BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN will be a hard listen, I suspect, for both audience and singers. I'll be curious to see how it's cast.

I began my afternoon watching the next-to-last Season 1 episode of NCIS.

And it was a grand one indeed - made to order for me since the guest stars are two of the hunkiest actors I know: Adam Baldwin and Matt Battaglia.

Good mystery about a Navy SEAL's death while rappelling off a cliff.

Next, I watched three episodes of season two of JERICHO. Great to see them again, more moving this time since I know what's coming for some of the characters.

Alas, the DVDs don't really do the show justice in terms of picture. The outside scenes all have a kind of haze over them that softens the picture markedly. The inside scenes are much better.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is the same as the broadcast version, so it's fine.

I also listened to about 15 minutes of commentary from each of the first three episodes. I had no idea the actor playing Hawkins was British. He hid his accent very well.

There are three deleted scenes on disc 1 in the set. I'll watch those tonight after I watch the fourth episode and listen to some commentary.

I was very surprised to note that the first 6 episodes each have a commentary but there is no commentary for the last show of the series! Isn't that strange!

Apparently Kine Video is going to be releasing the Hallmark Hall of Fame one hour version of  The Fantasticks from 1964 with Bert Lahr, Sterling Holloway, Fernando Lamas, John Davidson, and Susan Watson for home video.    :)

:D When??

All you DD fans--I did some comparison shopping, and to my surprise found that DVDPlanet is quite a bit cheaper.  When you add in their 20% off sale (reusable code:  20offsale), you'll save quite a bit from DD's prices.  Shipping is free if your order is over $35.

NOW you tell me. :-\

However...just yesterday I bought the DVD of Company with Raul Esparza from DeepDiscount (with nothing else) and using the sale code (and no shipping at all) it was only $13.50!  The DVDPlanet sale price with the code would be about $13.98 plus shipping.

I'm just sayin'... ::)

I checked the cable guide, and the NCIS episode tonight IS a rerun from last season so I won't be watching. With that time freed up, I might be able to finish JERICHO tonight.

At 10, I do plan to watch last night's episode of THE MOLE.

Marc Bruni picked the girl who got an advantage (who would spend the "quality (learning) time" with Nikki Snelson), and had no say in who got kicked off.  Upon seeing the show, I thought Bruni was a real class act, and by the choice he made as to who got the advantage, any thought of a conflict of interest was removed.  Very well handled.

What they did to the auditioners durjng the actual audition, on the other hand - SPOILER ALERT

FJL - if you watch the entire auditions on line, the contestants handled it a lot better than it looks from the edit on the show.  The one that had to leave did a really good job, but you wouldn't know it from what was aired

Good Tuesday morning vibes to all. And thank you, Bruce, for the warm welcome.

I'm a longtime errant/truant lurker who has, until now, ignored BK's many pleas to post. "Post," he's implored me and my wife when we've run into him at the Music Center in Los Angeles. "Post," he's demanded when I've run into him and a bunch of merry Hainsies/Kimlets at Musso & Frank's in Hollywood. "Post," he's pleaded in an e-mail.

And so, here it is, my first post.

I think I'll name her Emily.

Welcome, Mark!
