Is it...could it be...Venetia Stevenson and Russ Tamblyn???

His hair looks very dark for Russ Tamblyn. Speaking of Russ, he was on his daughter's show last night. :)

I had better put something nice on to wear tonight.

DR PennyO - I keep meaning to ask... And maybe you mentioned it earlier, but I somehow missed it...

Are you doing a residency at Bristol Riverside?  Or did they just offer you two weeks in an Elysian setting complete with gym?  -I wish I could make it up to see you show, but, hopefully, I'll make it to one of them sometime sooner or later.

And who is your pianist?  What is his name?

Said pianist is Peter de Mets - third generation musician, dad still plays, older brother is a pianist, this guy is mostly a singer
!!! Sings Finishing the Hat so beautifully, I asked him to sing it as an epilogue to my show!

No, no residency. I offered. Somehow it never came together - but the accommodations are wonderful, there is a salaried guy from the theater whose sole job is to keep the talent happy. They are giving me a per performance fee (and a damn fine one, at that! just like the old days...) PLUS a percentage!!! And somehow, they've handled the weather, too. Been sunshiney since I got here.

Jose, if you're in NYC between Feb 23 and Mar 1, I'll be around, and I'd love to meet you.

Dr PennyO - Thanks for the info.  Sounds like a great gig.  *It's sort of like when the GM from Universal Studios Japan asked me last summer if I wouldn't mind being flown to Australia a day or two early to help with the jet lag.  "ummm.... YES!!!"   ;D  -And, best of all, I have no jet lag!!!

As for meeting in NYC, I may be up there Feb 29-March 2 to catch some friends in some shows and cabarets.  Will you be leaving March 1?  Or March 2?

Fondest Greetings from yet another rain soaked weekend in Florida.  Land of Sunshine,  M-F, 8-5.

Echo & I had a very nice visit with our friends at the nursing home.  I also exposed myself to a violent intestinal virus.  The clothes I was wearing went directly into the washing machine.

We have decided to go out for dinner tonight.  Our first choice of restaurants had one opening left, unfortunately they have a special menu tonight which doesn’t include many vegetarian dishes.  Our second choice is booked until 9:30.  So we will just go into town and “wing” it.

Oh my, Jane, I do hope you don't get it.  Best heath vibes to you to ward off any germs you may have picked up!

I'm glad your both going out for a romantic dinner.  At least someone had my wish for you all come true.

Well, what a day, what a day, what a day.  That's 3 what a days in a row!

Bought all the parts for toilet so that project awaits me on the morrow.  I’m so looking forward to it—NOT!  Cover your ears.  That noise your going hear is me.  I don’t mean to say the things I do but I’m my Daddies girl in the “fix it while cursing” dept.  I guarantee that tomorrow night at this time, it WILL be fixed.

Big news of the day–I have a new fish!  He’s not a red or blue/green run of the mill color.  He’s got a dark face and a steel blue/grey body.  Very usual. He “spoke” to me from the money I set eyes on him so I had to get him.  I’ll have pictures when I get him settled in his new home on my desk at work.

The other news is that I spotted two houses on the net  that I thought I would like to take a look at so Mom and I went and had a look see.  I liked what I saw thru the windows.  I’ll call the realtor on Monday to see if I can get the key to see the insides.  Who knows....Maybe.   Just maybe.

Jrand, I don’t remember who the man was but was the female Liz Taylor?

Jennifer, Ouch!  I had a bottle of hair spray drop on my foot just the other day.  It hurt.  A lot.  Of course, in our house, you takes your chances every time you open the freezer door.  Ever had a frozen chicken hit your foot?  How about a nice rump roast?  No fun.  Good vibes to you as well!

1000 Chocolate Recipes.  Yum.  I'm hoping the Slim Fast Low Carb bars I bought today are good then I won't be to deprived.    :)

On a personal note...

I feel a feeling coming on!

It's been a good evening.  What started off as a lazy day - very lazy, has turned into a slightly productive one.  And once close to my normal routine.  Which is a good sign.  A very good sign.  -Maybe tomorrow morning... ;D

I cleaned up the kitchen.  Put some fixin's in the slow-cooker - I'll have it tomorrow for lunch/brunch.  I cleaned those dishes.  Set out some recyclables.  And then I decided to light a nice scented candle I bought last year - the scent is called "Havana" - Cuban tabac, bergamot, and ylang-ylang.  Very nice.  *The hint of tobacco is actually quite nice... and masculine.  <insert ape sounds here>

Oh, and as for what's in the slow-cooker - stew beef, chunks of pork shoulder, onions, carrots, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper, garlic (4 cloves!), diced green chiles, black beans and some salsa verde.  Basically, an improvised chile - one of those "let's see what I have in the cupboard" affairs.  We'll see what happens.  8)

OK - well, time to sit back, relax, watch "Trading Spaces", enjoy my candle, and check back here every now and then...

-What a nice Valentine's Day!  :)

Are we on page five yet? ? ? ?

well. . .

The Origins of St. Valentine's Day

A quick quiz: St. Valentine was:

a)  a priest in the Roman Empire who helped persecuted Christians during the reign of Claudius II, was thrown in jail and later beheaded on Feb. 14.

b)  a Catholic bishop of Terni who was beheaded, also during the reign of Claudius II.

c)  someone who secretly married couples when marriage was forbidden, or suffered in Africa, or wrote letters to his jailer's daughter, and was probably beheaded.

d)  all, some, or possibly none of the above.

If you guessed d), give yourself a box of chocolates. Although the mid-February holiday celebrating love and lovers remains wildly popular, the confusion over its origins led the Catholic Church, in 1969, to drop St. Valentine's Day from the Roman calendar of official, worldwide Catholic feasts. (Those highly sought-after days are reserved for saints with more clear historical record. After all, the saints are real individuals for us to imitate.) Some parishes, however, observe the feast of St. Valentine.

The roots of St. Valentine's Day lie in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, which was celebrated on Feb. 15. For 800 years the Romans had dedicated this day to the god Lupercus. On Lupercalia, a young man would draw the name of a young woman in a lottery and would then keep the woman as a sexual companion for the year.

Pope Gelasius I was, understandably, less than thrilled with this custom. So he changed the lottery to have both young men and women draw the names of saints whom they would then emulate for the year (a change that no doubt disappointed a few young men). Instead of Lupercus, the patron of the feast became Valentine. For Roman men, the day continued to be an occasion to seek the affections of women, and it became a tradition to give out handwritten messages of admiration that included Valentine's name.

There was also a conventional belief in Europe during the Middle Ages that birds chose their partners in the middle of February. Thus the day was dedicated to love, and people observed it by writing love letters and sending small gifts to their beloved. Legend has it that Charles, duke of Orleans, sent the first real Valentine card to his wife in 1415, when he was imprisoned in the Tower of London. (He, however, was not beheaded, and died a half-century later of old age.)

No, I haven't seen "Wonderland" so I wouldn't know if it was the perfect Valentine movie.  "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" is more my speed.  It's a 4 hankie film.  Is "Wonderland" a 4 hankie film?
