THE ANNUAL TONY AWARDS DO

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were very Tony-centric, and now it is time for you to post until the Tony cows come home - they're currently performing the Cow Song from  Gypsy.

Just amended the notes - had forgotten to insert the title and shockingly forgot to include the topic o' the day.

Favorite Tony Award moment:  when Brent Barrett (the World's Sexiest Man Alive) and Michael Jeter sang, "We'll Take a Glass Together."  It's pure joy! ;D

It was truly a joy to log in and see that DR Jane was back here at HHW!  Take it easy on those wrists, but do return as often as you can!   :)

TOD:  I can't choose just one favorite TONY moment.

I can think of one glaring UNfavorite TONY moment:  when La Cage beat out Sunday for Best Score.  :(

Good morning, all! I slept quite poorly last night, spending a lot of the night thinking about moving furniture about in the apartment. Today, when I return from Toyland, I will do some redecorating.

TOD: I've watched them all from the second one: I remember the performances of 1776, PROMISES PROMISES, and the Awards show seemed to run the gamut over 40 years from the sublime to the utter horrifying; my worst memory is probably that strange Charles Nelson Reilly sequence. I suppose the best moment was Jerry Herman's rather smug acceptance speech for LA CAGE AUX FOLLES which was the primary reason for my nominating SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE for the Pulitzer.

One of my favprite silly moments on the Tonys was Ed Asner (at the height of his fame) trying to sing the Best Actress nominees in the late 1970's.  "Madeline Kahn, On the Twentieth Century. whoo-whoo, whoo-whoo; Eartha Kitt in Timbuktu, Liza Minnelli in The Act, Frances Sternhagen in Angel, Angel."  He was imitating a train on the whoo-whoo's, and of course Timbuktu rhymed with whoo-whoo, so it kinda worked in a very silly way.

Good morning!

It was a little cooler this morning, so that was nice. Getting up near 90 again today, but I think we may get the rain they've been predicting for the last three days or so. We'll see.

It was cool enough this morning for me to haul out the lawn mower and give the front yard a much needed mowing. Actually, the grass hadn't grown much, but the weeds were having a lovely time and needed to be trimmed.

So many Tony highlights. My five favorites:

Jennifer Holliday and company doing the act I closing from DREAMGIRLS

Robert Preston and Mary Martin in "Nobody's Perfect" from I DO! I DO!

The opening sequence of A CHORUS LINE with the original company

"We'll Take a Glass Together" from GRAND HOTEL

"Will-o-Mania"/"Favorite Son" from THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES

Today I'll be working on AFTER THE RAIN, the new Criterion release. It's almost two hours so I likely won't finish all of the features today since of course I'll be watching THE TONY AWARDS tonight live.

I'll make some predicctions in the musicals category:

I think IN THE HEIGHTS will win Best Musical and Best Score.

I think SOUTH PACIFIC will win Best Musical Revival.

I think Kelli O'Hara will win Best Musical Actress over Patti LuPone (even though I know Patti desperately wants that second Tony).

In fact, I think SOUTH PACIFIC's two leads and Danny Burstein will all win giving it three out of four winners in the acting categories.
