I want to make  some coffee.

I want to.

But I don't want to leave my bedroom.

Ever.

At least not until the fog returns to cool us all down.

A lazy day here, trying to catch up on some long neglected projects.  And perhaps some viewing.  And dog walking.

It's Saturday, June 21.

Where has this year gone?

I'm still winding down from my Christmas vacation.

*Funeral directors who guide the congregation up to the casket and then through the door, which leads to the parking lot in 115 degree weather to visit with the family. (Luckily my ankle was nicely swollen and bruised, so I was able to plead pain and come home.)

Play some Mel Torme, DR Ron Pulliam.  Isn't he the "velvet fog?"

It's nice to learn of the DD extension.  I feel sure I've gotten everything I wanted (that I could afford, at any rate).  I may revisit and see if prices have gone down on some of the things I felt were too high at regular prices.

It's gonna take more than the "velvet fog" to cool us down, I fear.

One of my DH's pet peeves: brides who arrive late for weddings.

If he's been playing prelude music, and it's more than 15 or 20 minutes past the time the wedding was supposed to start, he lifts his hands from the keyboard and the guests wait in silence until the bridal party arrives.

I asked this a couple of weeks ago, but what did everyone get on the DD sale?  I'm just wondering if I've missed any goodies.  I've found my DVD purchasing has gone way down now that I am inundated with things to review.  Speaking of which, there are several very nice Acorn/BBC boxed sets available on ewaey.com right now for a very good price.  ;)

I've turned off the portable AC.  All the doors are open.  The window fan is on.

Perhaps I can get the condo a little below 80 before the day heats up.

HEADLIGHTS DURING THE DAY:

"I’m sure someone will have an explanation and I’m sure it will make no sense whatsoever."

If you insist:

A. If there is a mist and drivers use their wipers, they are required to turn on their headlights.

B. When going through tunnels or through long underpasses, headlight use is often desireable.

C. Whenever a driver has been through event A or B, they aften forget to turn their lights back off.

Many has been the time I have left LA through the Pasadena tunnel and forgot to turn off my lights when heading North on I5.

der Brucer

No tunnels, no mist, just a bright beautiful day in West LA.  Next.

They're called "Daytime Running Lights," and most newer cars have them.  They've been proven to reduce accidents, and if your car has them, you'll probably get a discount on your car insurance.  You DO have the option of turning off the feature, if you wish, but the default is that they turn on automatically when you start the car.  They're actually separate bulbs from [or in addition to] your regular headlights.

Doesn't explain the older cars, of which there were many.  I should think they'd reduce nothing - if anything they're a distraction during the day.

Well, my car is now almost ten years old and, at the time of purchase, was a pricey luxury car - its lights don't come on automatically.  But let me just add as my new pet peeve car manufacturers who design cars wherein the headlights come on automatically during the day, and stay on whether you want them or not.

And here is our second blurb for the new book, which now can go to the publisher on Monday.

In MURDER AT THE GROVE, occasional teenage gumshoe and always odd duck, Adriana Hofstetter, is at it again, sticking her quirky nose where it doesn't belong...worrying her mother, fretting her friends (make that friend...just one), irritating the police, and persistently interrogating an array of annoyed suspects about a murder case which everyone insists doesn't exist.  But the determined and indefatigable Ms. Hofstetter's skewed sleuthing ferrets out the facts faster than she can wolf down onion rings at a local Hollywood bistro.  The clues, characters, and locale are all explored with the same eccentric but affectionate Kimmel whimsey displayed in MURDER AT HOLLYWOOD HIGH and the Benjamin Kritzer trilogy.

I believe whimsy is "e"-less in its preferred spelling.

A smorgasboard of comments......I saw THE OSCAR when I was in college. Our campus theater(the Kimball cinemaudetorium) had three movie days; Wed mats(art films, Bergman, Fellini, etc;Fri & Sat  night semi recent releases(I think the Sat nit ones were more date friendly-it was at the time an all male college) But there was this change of pace during exam week: i now think of certains films as Exam Week movies.King Kong vs. Godzilla was one and the Oscar was another.......I know what you mean about theColony...Last year, as a Souvenir I bought vocal selections from THE APPLE TREE at the shop underneath the Minskoff. Out I curiosity, I checked the Colonys price and sure enough, simply by walking 5 blocks north, the price went up by a buck and a half.I think they get away with this because of their location...for a lot of tourists that's  the only shop they see or know about..Getting ready to see some shows...Boeing, Gypsy, Xanadu and Curtains, and if St jude blesses Dr Piano's advice, maybe South Pacific...Lastly, about FANNY-I liked it when I saw it as a child, but I got in a HUGE amount of trouble, because my older sister told my parents SPOILER ALERTthat the plot involved an unwed pregnancy, which was ironic  because altho  I followed the plot of the film i hadn't a clue as to how people got pregnant so it was all over my head

Is the "e" an English thing?  If so, that's a Pogue thing.

It's considered an arcane spelling.  Of course, we always knew that DR Pogue is among the arcanist folk out there.   ;)

I think Out There might be more a propos (for an autobiography, anyhow).    ;)
