Jane I sent you some info on WWH & CO, but it's a silversmith and not a jeweler. Interesting

I’ve been busy with an unsuccessful search on the internet looking for information regarding a ring I have that belonged to my aunt.

Today I happened to notice on the inside of the gold band it says WWH & Co.  I began a search & found a few items, no rings or jewelry, vintage items for sale.  Nothing was expensive.  I also found someone else requesting information regarding a WWH & Co. ring.  I can’t find anything on the company at all and am somewhat surprised & frustrated.

Is it an antique or no?  I even tried looking around and I don't have a clue.  I'm usually pretty good at tracking things down but I'm at a loss.  I'm sorry.

Have you tired the historical society in the town she lived in or perhaps if she received it as a gift where the ring was purchased? A historical society in a said place might reveal a few clues or even a library. I would check a city directory from about the time she got the gift for the initials WWH.

I don't know any history regarding the ring & I forgot the name of the town she was from.  From the items on Google listed for sale the company may have been English.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Jane in the info I sent you is from the William Wheatcroft Harrison Co...WWH & Co. It's a silversmith in Sheffield, England, but I don't see anything about jewelry, only silver cutlery etc. So it may not be the same co. I sent you an email that has a photo of their mark.

What you need is to find a book with jewelry marks and what company they belong to. I found one site, but there was no WWH

Thanks.  I couldn't get that particular link to open, when I searched.  My ring doesn't say LTD.  I've seen other silver & pewter items for sale & they don't say LTD either. ???

Does it appear to be a maker's mark or is it engraved?

Ok, well, I'll look a little more.  I love doing this.  Also, I'm going to a flea market tomorrow.  If I see any books on jewelry, I'll look in them and see if I can find it

Engraved.

Oh, then it's probably a personal engraving and I won't find that in a jewelry book, but I'll look.

Can you stamp the inside of a gold band?
