I was very touched by the description of Singdaw and Jason's trip to SF. What a memorable weekend!

DR Jose, do you know any reason why the blog crashes Safari when I try to open it? This has been happening with a few other blogs as well.

Has anyone else mentioned this problem? The same thing happens with my Mac at work!

We all brought dishes to our friends' house (full of food!) and had a yummy seleciton of stuff. Afterwards, we watched the fireworks, which are always quite impressive for a small town, and then sat on the porch playing music until about 1AM. Greg played guitar for at least an hour (he hasn't played in sveral years) and his un-callused fingers were hurting quite a bit by the end of the night!

I sure do miss living close to this set of friends, mostly preservationists, but sure don't miss the town itself!

I had one of those days where everything went right today. I went to my "meeting" and learned that I'd lost a little over 3 lbs. this week. Then I raced up to Marietta to the fresh market and got great deals on produce just as everyone was shutting down their booths, plus I picked up some tomato plants. Then I was able to get my oil changed and belts checked, and then back into Atlanta to get a haircut, with various other errands in between and then did my block captain duties, worked on the egg cream film, dinner with Greg, and got in a long walk around the neighborhood. The timing of everything could not have worked out better. I LOVE days like this! (I usually feel like I'm spinning my wheels!)

Good Evening!

I'm back from Chinatown.  I had a nice time catching up with my friend, Jeff, and we had a good dinner too.  The entrees were basically "very good Chinese restaurant" level, but the appetizers were spectacular.  We ordered oysters topped with black bean sauce and steamed shrimp dumplings.  It turned out that the we each got one oyster, but it was a HUGE oyster, and the black bean sauce topping was soooooooo good.

Alas, since the kitchen seemed to be a little mixed up tonight, they served our entrees before the appetizers.  If the appetizers had come first, we probably would have scrapped the entrees and ordered more oysters and dumplings.

It hasn't been crashing on my end.  Although, since I haven't blogged in a while, well... Maybe that's a sign.

???

I have been reading other blogs, and have not had any Safari crashes.

DR Jose.  Did your parents enjoy the ship?

My parents loved the whole experience.  Well, except for the conversion rate of the dollar to the Euro. ;)

DR Jennifer, I think the Mole is Clay (the black male contestant). Won't go into why here, but that's my guess.

Well, I began my evening by finishing up the bonus features on the MISHIMA set. They included a crackjack BBC documentary on the man which is very valuable if the hodgepodge arrangement oif sequences in the movie were at all confusing. And, of course, they weren't restricted by the widow in talking about the man's homosexuality or other controversial aspects of his life as the producers of the film were.

Then, I went back to disc one and watched the film. It's a beautiful transfer, and having seen everything about the man's life and his works from all the bonus features, the arrangement of elements in the film weren't nearly as confusing as they might have been otherwise, and I certainly understood the parallels from his fiction to his real life much better from having seen all those featurettes beforehand.

Then, I listened to the audio commentary for the movie by Paul Schrader and Alan Poul. Lots of interesting reminiscences and details about a very difficult shoot.

I ended my evening watching another episode of THE CLOSER. This was the one where Brenda first starts exhibiting "hot flashes" and concerned the body in the parking lot. (Loved that opening bit with Brenda on the ground which seemed like another dead body when the show started.)

Tomorrow I start on another TV box set (for review) JAKE AND THE FATMAN. It's season one, volume one so I'm assuming it'll be 12 or 13 episodes.

Finally back and done for the day.  Saw Wall-E, about which a lot more in the notes.  Interestingly, because of the long, long line for Indiana Jones an hour and twenty minutes before showtime, I got there ninety minutes ahead of time - nobody there at all, I was the only one.  In fact, they opened the theater at two and it was me and three others who went in, one hour before show time.  Most people didn't arrive until twenty minutes before the film began - with Indiana Jones all seats were gone and they even began the film twenty minutes early.  They ended up with 2/3's of a house.  I'm beginning the think that despite the reviews of the year, this film won't do as well as other Pixar films, at least if today is anything to go by.  That, and the fact that unless I missed a whole series of postings, our usual first day seeing new films troupe hasn't bothered with Wall-E (I hope I'm proven wrong about it, and would love to read the posts if I am), certainly not as many as would normally be first to see something like this and report back.  Briefly, I will say that it's an astonishing piece of work, virtually perfect with two very minor things that I wished were better (both having to do with music).

Well, its opening weekend gross last weekend was larger than RATATOUILLE's, but who knows if it has legs? We'll see.

BK - I think most of us DRs were doing other things than seeing "Wall-E" during it's opening weekend.  However, we're beginning to catch up.

I mean, just wondering if there's a lack of interest.  I know many here loved and adored the last Pixar film, but this is much, much better.

The few complaints I've read on various boards have to do with the second half of the film, which I thought terrific.  There's not a dud moment in the entire film.  In fact, I found the second half of Ratatouille irrititating in its standard plot mechanics - Wall-E, for me, avoids that.

George, I know the London cast recording of 1776 exists, but I've never seen it. I would love to have a copy.

If I can find it. :-\ When I looked for the laserdisc movie soundtrack yesterday, I didn't see the London cast recording with it.  I have all my musicals on CDs in marked boxes, so I knew exactly where it should've been.  I know I have a CD copy, but I'll have to look for it.  I just found my record, so maybe my sister's boyfriend can make me another CD copy.

Aha, Lloyd Center....I remember going there as a smal tike around 1969 or 1970ish. I thought it was pretty darn neat....and big!

Well, it is definitely much larger now but I don't know if it is any "neater"...I guess I have a hard time with change but the outside mall was much cooler, if you ask me!

DR George,

I can't tell you how often I listen to the film soundtrack of '1776' on CD and marvel at its quality. It's BY FAR my favorite version of the score ever recorded (the original cast album is something of a trial to sit through for me), and I'll always be grateful to have it.

As for the DVD version of the movie, I'm delighted that they added back the introduction to "He Plays the Violin" and the entire "Cool Considerate Men," but I WISH they had also added back the missing parts of "Piddle-Twiddle-and-Resolve" and the reprise of "The Lees of Old Virginia." I LOVE those verses!

So...do you want a copy?  Just let me know. :)
