I did indeed attend Broadway Barks earlier today.  Basically, Shubert Alley turns into a pet adoption site for a few hours, as well as a fundraising event for various animal causes. A fun and worthwhile event. There were many celebrities with their pets, and many(!) dogs and cats with their owners.  Surprisingly - and thankfully, I only "smelled" one accident.  ;)

And while I was walking through Shubert Alley, this is what I saw:

We have not actually stayed at the beautiful Fairmont Springs Hotel, only walked through it.

Now it will always have a special place in our hearts as Bryan called us from there yesterday.  He and Kate were sitting on the terrace having drinks, enjoying a view of the beautiful Rockies.

They called us to announce their engagement!!!

I also happened to run into the long E&T Jason while I was in Shubert Alley.  -We actually haven't seen each other in almost a month, so it was very nice to chat with him face to face rather than keyboard to keyboard.  He's doing well, and is currently in "audition mode".  Yeah!

Certainly he isn't and hasn't been in visiting haineshisway.com mode. :)

We may have a leetle gig for Mr. Jose should he want it - more I cannot say at this time.

I must say Bernadette looks awfully good in that photograph.  Did Jose and Walter run into each other or was it a planned meeting?

DR JoseSPiano, I'm jealous!!!  Have a fabulous time at the show tonight.  Give Jason Graae a big wet slurpy kiss from all of us DRs!  :D

Well, I did not give Jason a big slurpy kiss - even though I wanted to - but we did exchange a very hearty handshake and some goofy smiles.  However, I did give Liz Larsen a big hug and kiss, and I finally got re-meet her son, Andy (formerly known as Alessandro).  The last time I met Andy, he was only eight months old!  He's now 11!  "Did you know that I babysat you a few times, and even bought you some baby clothes?"  WOW!

There were also a bunch of friends and acquaintances in the audience tonight.  DR elmore's work-mate, Curtis, and his writing partner, Tom were there, as well as Phyllis Newman, Amanda Green, Michael Feinstein (who sat in front of me - he's shorter than I thought he was ;)), and a slew of actors who knew me from various and sundried auditions.

*DR MBarnum - Charles Bloom was there tonight, and he sends his regards as well.

It was a planned meeting - the first time we met each other since having dinner at Genghis Cohen in L.A.  Since he had worked with Ms. Peters on various projects, they were able to chat a bit while she signed the stack(!) of books that he bought.  Thankfully, she seemed to have the booksigning thing down pat - very fast, very legible - he didn't end up holding up the line as much as the people us thought he would.  Of course, since there were some diehard Broadway "fans" in attendance, Walter got stopped a few times for his autograph once the event proper started.

We had made tentative plans to meet up with Pat Suzuki, a.k.a. "my idol", but she did not make it over to Shubert Alley today.  Someday... ;)

And, yes, Bernadette looked very good.

And speaking of looking very good, while Walter and I were walking around, we happened to run into one of Grand Hotel castmates - and one his dear friends...

She just happened to be sitting in the little plaza across from the stage door of City Center enjoying her between show break with some of her castmates - who I knew.  *They all liked my Mambo t-shirt.  ;)

I'm now back from the NYPL and loaded with info on the 912 LADY OF THE SLIPPER events. I need a nap and some food.

WOW!  Was some of that info written on papyrus?

The Hollywood Collector's Show may have run its course.  I said that last time, when heavyweights Peter Falk and Patty Duke were there.  This time there were no real heavyweights - one dealer described Friday's attendance as "a morgue."  Today there weren't many people there.  Several people, like Barry Pearl, my pal Annette Cardona, and the other Grease people at least had people around them and they said they were doing fine.  Druxy told me Bridget Hanley had done well yesterday, but there were hardly any people even walking up and down her row.  Other wonderful folks like Catherine Hicks sat at their table completely alone.

It may simply be time to cut it down to twice a year and really stock up on the celebs.  Even Celeste Holm had no line at all in the entire three hours I was there.

I've always meant to ask/comment about this.  It seems that there's a Hollywood Collector's show every month.  Well, at least every other month.  I would think the frequency would automatically diminish the attendance from show to show, n'est-ce pas?  Wouldn't just twice a year be better?

I saw some photos from the July 4 weekend today   I will be starting a serious weight loss plan on August 2. My trial will be over and my stress level should be somewhat lower.  I'm going to start walking more between now and then.  Yikes, it was scary to see I've gained as much as I apparently have

Yes Adam it's the 12th Anniversary of my 35th Birthday.  Thanks. It was funny, mom kept saying "I can't believe you didn't shave today" and he kept saying "I DID shave"  It wasn't until I looked at both sides of his face that we figured it out.

There was a great song in tonight's "Compose Yourself" revue.  It was sung by a character who had reached a "certain age".  After realizing that "thirty-ish" no longer applied, she opted for "thirty-eleven".  ;)

*Then admitted to actually being "thirty-thirteen".

Probably not. LOL. I'm watching History Channel International for some reason tonight. I just saw a promo.  It's a real archeology show, but I was just surprised at the name

TOD: Boy that one isn't easy.  I have had some nice rooms at various places when I've gone to conferences.

I tend to judge the room by the bathroom.

The Fairmont in Chicago was nice. I think that was the first hotel I stayed at with a separate shower, separate room for the throne and separate bathtub with both a phone and a TV in the bathroom.

As far as hospitality and helpful staff, it's hard to beat the Algonquin.  When I stayed there they were wonderful. I still remember being asked how my day was and I said "fine, how is yours?" He said "Wonderful now that you are here". Cheesy, yes, but I ate it up.  Plus, they have a cat there.  Even though I had a small room, I felt so at home.  If I could still get the great government rate, I'd go back there

In my experience, if you ask for the government rate, you tend to get it.  The fact that you know that there is a government rate is usually enough "proof" to qualify for one.

*In fact, I remember when I would regularly stay at the Edison and the Skyline, there were a couple of times when I would call to make the reservation, and the agent would "ask" me, "You qualify for the government rate, don't you?"  -Yes.  Yes, I do.

In that case, Jose knows a great band you can hire.  :)

Well, after August 17, the pit orchestra of A Chorus Line will be available.

Well, I have to get up early to buy roses.  I'm thinking a dozen for the office and a dozen for home...for a grand total of $12.00   Better set my alarm!

I saw some of them tonight. There were all sorts of colors and I opened the cooler and took a big sniff, AHHHH did that smell good!

Hmm... Well, actually, I guess I would hope that they would ask for proper ID.  However... I think the deal with the Skyline and the Edison was that once the reservation was in their system as "government rate", that was what the desk staff honored, passed on to me.

Although, now I'm remembering a time when I checked into the Edison, and the desk agent asked if I was here on business.  I informed her that I was, and she then asked which company.  I told here I was in town for some freelance theatre.

"Where are you from?"
-The DC area.
"Oh!  Have you ever worked at the Kennedy Center?"
-Yes, I have.
"Well, we offer the corporate rate to employees of the Kennedy Center."
-I'm not working there currently.
"Is there a possibility that you will work there again?"
-Yes, there is.
"Well, then you qualify for the corporate rate."
-Thank you.  Thank you very much.
