Better news. "Big Brother" is not to be renewed here. One less TV show to avoid. Now if we can just get rid of the other "reality and idol shows" and give writers and actors some work.
"Wicked" has started here in Melbourne. Of course two of the cast members are from Oz Idol. It is so sad for those young people who train for theatre - and have the talent but not the "name"!
On the other hand (and not to argue but to offer a different "take" on it), a lot of people train their whole lives, and invest much of their adult lives, into "making it" in the theater when their chances of success are very slim and/or their talents, bless their hearts, are more hopeful than viable.
And there is the possibility, through such shows as "Idol", that very talented performers who never were able to seriously pursue their dreams get one last (or first) magical chance to break out, be heard and find a career because they're really good.
I've seen a few phenomenal talents emerge from such shows. I'm not saying the torture I put myself through whicle watching everyone on the shows was worthwhile "because of" the few exceptional performers....but I don't regret having experienced some rare moments.
