I had a most delightful lunch with my friend Hal this afternoon. Ah, how time passes. When we were both single, we were on the phone nearly every day or two jabbering away about our lives, the movies we were watching, etc.

Nine years ago, he found love, and our close friendhsip is now much more sporadic. He has a new job now, too, that requires him to be on the road several days a week, so balancing that and a lover and old friendships is tough indeed.

Nice that we can pick up where we left off every time we see each other, though we may go weeks without talking on the phone and months between seeing each other.

DR Jennifer,

No spoilers about THE MOLE (I'm only halfway through last night's episode), but the genius part of the show is that some people ruin things on purpose occasionally to CONVINCE others he/she is the Mole to throw them off track and cause them to fail the quiz.

Before I left for lunch and after I got back, I watched about 2/3 of last night's episode of THE MOLE. As DR Jennifer was mentioned, some VERY suspicious behavior on the part of a couple of contestants.

I do think I know the Mole's identity, and this person is still there after I mis-guessed in Week 3, so I think I'm on the right track.

I spent most of the afternoon watching THE HILLS. What young 20s angst. These girls dating these guys who treat them like dirt, and they continually wonder should I stay with him or not?

Honestly, this show makes me feel SO old. The problem is, though, that even at 23 (the age of three of the main girls), I seem to have been a lot more grounded emotionally and much more serious about career and the future than these folks.

The girls are certainly the focus of the show, but from the little bit we get to see of the guys who circle around these girls, they are all either total losers or very selfish, self-centered, and uncooth.

I'm probably not the right person to be reviewing this set, but it IS my job so . . . .

I got 6 episodes watched (luckily, they're only about 20 minutes long each). There are 28 episodes in the set, so I have 22 more to go. I should be able to get 10-12 more of them done tonight.

I did have time to skim through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nada of interest for me, and nothing in the previews.

Back from a nice lunch with David.  We met at The Kansas City Barbecue only to find a note on their front door saying they were closed due to their smoker malfunctioning.  How annoying is that?  So, we drove over to Toluca Lake and ate at Patti's coffee shop, so my lunch was, in fact, less caloric than it would have been at the barbecue jernt.  I had a BLTA and cole slaw.

I think a Happy Birthday is in order for Willem Dafoe who is 53 years young today.

And today is also Rufus Wainwright's birthday...he's 35.  What a coinkydink!

David alerted me to these outtakes from Bullshit!  At the beginning, Penn is introducing the clips and he says the most lovely thing about me.  Give it a looksee - there are two clips.

Yes, I saw those the other day when someone posted a link about the show. I like the one where you made a sandwich on some guy's face.

There must be some Andrew Lloyd Webber songs that even people who don't follow musical theatre would know.

When in doubt there is always Disco Evita (almost as much fun as Disco Annie).

Lunch was a mixed blessing.

The meatball soup was superb.  It included nice chunks of potatoes and okra pods that were quite spicy.  YUM!

The shrimp scampi was acidic...the chef cooked them in white wine, garlic and butter and then threw a bunch of diced tomatoes on top (but WHY?).   All I could taste was the tomatoes.

Sigh.

I wonder:  If we developed a new cable show called Rant-O-Rama, and allowed anyone to come on each week and rant about any topic they wanted, whether anyone would watch such a show?

I think there are occasional Rant-A-Thons a la Bill Hicks, to raise money for Hick's wildlife rehabilitation organization, and people turn out for that, so....

Most of the casting for SUMMER SHORTS 2 (Skip's one-act is on Series B) is now announced on the site.

In addition to Tony nominees Stephanie D'Abruzzo [Avenue Q] and Jonathan Kaplan [Falsettos], both of whom are doing Skip's piece on Series B,  it seems that Series A will include a one-act that stars Oscar nominee Amy Irving.

And here's the Playbill article on that casting update:

Today's 'where's birth control when you really need it?' moment:  I got home from a gig I had walked to and so uncustomarily went to the front door to get in (normally I drive and come in through our garage door).  I quickly discover I cannot get the key in the front door lock.  I go around back and let myself in, call DS Betsy and ask her if she has experienced any difficulty, but since neither of us go in or out of the front door very often, she says no.  I tell her I conclude the doorknob has been vandalized and that perhaps someone tried to break in.  (PAUSE)  Thirty seconds the phone rings and Betsy, who has former son Gabe with her today, informs me that said former son has just confessed that when he thought he was locked out the other day he attempted to "pick the lock" with several twigs which are now irretrievably jammed in the lock.  Cut to several hours later, when the locksmith arrives and removes probably 17 small pieces of wood that my former son had managed to fit into a space approximately a millimeter wide.

Good to know that Gabe is not gifted in that area of expertise DR JMK.

Perhaps he will be more like his ex Father and take to the other keys.

Trivia

My last post was at 12:07, it is now 3:21 and I have been oiling furniture almost the entire time.  I did do some dusting of items before they went back on top of the furniture.  When I oil I am very fussy, making sure I rub all the excess oil in so nothing streaks.

DR Ginny, did the doctor give you a time frame for when the swelling will be completely gone?  Is your "funny" shoe what you were given after the surgery?
