I was trying to find the quote from Tim Rice. I do remember him saying that the words to "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" do not really make sense. Even the title phrase was not meant to be the "final" lyric.

I'm sure that no-one else has mentioned it (I may have skipped a post though), but Richard Carpenter's production of the song sung by the wonderful Karen is just terrific.

No...you haven't missed much, at all.

Confirmation is good.  The last couple of shows I did see didn't exactly have HUGE payoffs....not until the final moments, anyway.

And anything I can do to keep "The Hoff" OUT of my life, the better my quality of life is.

Perhaps a waltz for Che and Eva would be appropriate at this time.

I would have no clue.

Were you talking about ALW songs, or life in general?

A Cold winter here Ron.  We do need more rain in the drought ravaged country but we are having cold nights and mornings at the moment.

I'm getting giddy, I'm afraid.

Where's our DR ticktock?  We could frenzy a page or two.

DP Colin and I received a lovely card from a DR in the NW today.  I'd mention the name of the DR (and family) and say how touched we both were by the sentiments expressed but my post would be ignored so I won't bother.

I love four seasons.  I miss them, for the most part.  I don't want the scorching heat and high humidity, of course.  And snowstorm after snowstorm isn't my idea of fun.  And you can keep the violent storms and tornadoes and floods.

But a little bit of each season -- in moderation -- is wonderful.

Once a decade we have snow.
Of course it never rains till after sundown and by eight the morning fog must disappear.

There has been snow in the nearby hills this winter.

Might I recommend the Nigel Kennedy Cd (and DVD) of "Four Seasons".

Oh, sure....GUILT us!   :)

I have no idea what DR lives in the NW of Australia, sorry to say, but if he or she is happy and well, then I am glad of it!

I think "seeing it" on nearby hills is as good as it needs to be, actually!

I think Mr Kennedy's recording of Mr Vivaldi's work is still the best ever selling CD of a classical work in the UK

I'm fairly certain I must have it, along with about 7 other recordings of it!

The time has come for me to wash my water glass and put it away for tomorrow.

With luck, I'll be walking out of here in 6 minutes.

The DR lives a little further North than DR's JMK and DR George.

28 Seasons DR Ron.

Almost seems like a reference to that not enjoyable musical "RENT".

GREEN GODDESS DRESSING
[/b]

Joy of Cooking suggests this for use on fish or shellfish, or on vegetable salads:

Combine 1 cup mayonnaise, 1 minced garlic clove, 3 minced anchovy fillets (!!!), 1/2 cup sour cream, 1/4 cup finely minced chives or scallions, 1/4 cup finely minced parsley, 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, 1 tablespoon tarragon vinegar, and salt and black pepper to taste.  Use immediately or cover and refrigerate.

There is no avocado in Green Goddess dressing.  It gets the green from the chives/scallions and parsley.

And yep, the anchovies are essential.  But the dressing doesn't really taste like anchovies.  (I've never thought Worchestershire sauce tasted like anchovies, either, but they're there, too.)

The story is that in 1923 a play titled The Green Goddess was a hit in San Francisco, starring George Arliss.  The chef at the Palace Hotel came up with the dressing, to honor both George and the play.  The dressing, of course, has lasted longer than either of the honorees.

I'd rather put avocado than anchovies in the green goddess dressing.

But then it would be an avocado dressing, and not Green Goddess.

You probably wouldn't know it, but a true Caesar Salad dressing has a bit of anchovy in it, as well.  Anchovy works it way into all sorts of things, giving an inexpressible something to the flavor of whatever it is in that would be missed if it wasn't there.  Der Brucer and I had a bruschetta served to us at an Italian restaurant somewhere in Virginia (or maybe North Carolina) that had just a smidge of anchovy in the topping, and when the waiter "confessed" what the secret ingredient was, there was a twinkle in his eye that said he'd told us something really special.

And, I didn't realize until just now that they're named after you!  No wonder I like them so much!

On disc 5 of the 5-CD ALW compilation "Now & Forever," they write in the liner notes about when they were recording the original studio album with Julie Covington, Tim hadn't decided on that line, yet.  He had three choices and they recorded all three.  On this compilation, they put the three different versions together and used the three lines in one song.  They are:

"It's Only Your Lover Returning"

then:

"All Through My Crazy And Wild Days"

and finally:

"Don't Cry For Me Argentina"
