That's what I've been doing for the past 30 minutes! I'm ready for DC.

DR Elmore - I've always wanted to go along as your research assistant at LoC.  Have a great trip!

And the premiere of Sordid Lives on LOGO!

I will only get to see it when Paramount (who owns Logo) releases the first season set on DVD and I get to review it.

The sun finally did come out, so I'm thinking it didn't make it to 94 today. Maybe 88 or so if what it felt like the few times I popped my head outside the door checking for the mail, etc.

THE SCORPION KING finally arrived today, but I'm so close to the end of THE HILLS that it'll have to wait another day.

It seems to me that someone on this hear website was looking for episodes of the old Jackie Cooper TV sitcome THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE.

Well, this guy just got it in stock...I have bought from him many times and have always been pleased. He has a great selection of vintage TV shows.

Great list, including 'Amos & Andy" and "Michael Shayne"

I began my afternoon with the last WILL & GRACE episode on disc 1 in the Season 7 set. This was the one where Will and Jack attempt to save a gay bookstore that's closing. Roscoe Lee Browne was the primary guest star, and he was just wonderful.

The rest of the afternoon was spent with THE HILLS. I got all of the episodes watched on disc 3 and got to the first half of the last episode on disc 4. (There's about 12 minutes left in the season finale episode.)

But there are a bunch of bonus features, so I have that to do too meaning that I will definitely not finish with the set until tomorrow afternoon unless I spent tomorrow morning watching the rest of the disc (which I certainly could do).

No, sad to say, I've not been there or done that.  But it sounds interesting.  When/if I find myself in (or near) Larkspur, I'll check 'em out.

Do you ever eat at The Larkspur Inn?  I'm sorry to say we only ate there once the entire year we lived in Tiburon.

DR Elmore - I've always wanted to go along as your research assistant at LoC.  Have a great trip!

I've already sent them the carton numbers from the Herbert Collectio and Tams-Witmark Collection that I need, so a lot of my work is just photocopying. I need to look up the call number on a vocal score to photocopy when I get there, but everything else should be waiting for me.

Hopefully, I'll see the correspondence of Herbert's daughter on how several items were purchased for the collection. I believe THE LADY OF THE SLIPPER materials were purchased from the William Randolph Hearst collection auction. BABES IN TOYLAND was owned by the financier Andre de Coppet.

de Coppet's collection was so huge, it took about 5 years to auction it all off via Sotheby's. I still need to locate a set of the Sotheby auction books.

DR Ron, if I had been up I would have suggested icing the mosquitoes and then spraying them with Benadryl.  I find if I can do both of those immediately it greatly reduces my reaction to the bites.

Self sufficient vibes to DR Ginny!  If you need anything from the basement or the upstairs, call a friend over.

DR Jennifer,

I'm reviewing THE HILLS because Paramount studio releases are my assignment. It has nothing to do with trying to match a reviewer to the target audience of a release. Impossible to do with every release and not the way criticism works. There isn't a single film, theater, book, or music critic to my knowledge that's the perfect audience for every release in his chosen area. Part of being a professional is being able to ascertain the strong and weak points of a given release regardless of its innate appeal to one personally and then to be able to express those feelings through one's writing.

For example, in the last six months, I've had to review both SWEENEY TODD and SHINE A LIGHT. One is Stephen Sondheim and the other is the Rolling Stones. Everyone here knows precisely which one I would gravitate to on my own were I watching just for fun. But guess what? SHINE A LIGHT got a very positive write-up from me even though I don't give rock music a second thought in my personal life. I do have the ability to separate my own personal choices for entertainment to what I'm watching for a professional purpose.

The fact that I find the drama of THE HILLS obviously manufactured, the set-ups for confrontation contrived, and the conflicts and arguments rather lame is an opinion only, not meant to insult fans of the show. Doesn't mean the show can't be entertaining for others, but the fact that it is MTV's most popular show with its target female 12-34 age group doesn't mean the show is any less synthetic and manipulative. In fact, that's the MAJOR part of its appeal.

Is anyone besides me gettign these roaring dinosaurs? It really freaks me out!

I found two complete sets of the 10 auction books for de Coppet on abebooks.com, one for $150 and one for $143.75. Maybe I'll locate a set tomorrow at the LoC:
Book Description: Sotheby and Co., 1954-8, 1954. Binding is paper Wrappers. Book Condition: Very Good. 4to. 10 volumes housed in original red cloth slipcase. Three volumes are in tan wrappers and the remainder are in green wrappers. All contain several plates and some contain the prices realized and buyers list. The interiors are very clean overall, though there are occasional markings in pencil. White remnant of price sticker to front panel of volume I and minor chipping to spine of volume 2, else bindings are very clean and tight. BOB/070706. Bookseller Inventory # 18029

DR Matt H, I found your comments on reviewing very interesting.  Typically I have certain critics I prefer to read, knowing our opinions are often similar.  Is your name on your reviews & is there a link to them?

BK, what time is your flight tomorrow?

My train is at 7:17 am, so I need to be out of here around 6:30.  I went to Penn Station today and waited in line for 55 minutes to pick up my tickets. The damned line was endless and Amtrak offers no help at all in sppeding things up or alerting customers to other options.

I stopped at MacDonald's on my way back from the bank. Quite yummy.  I think I'll get a salad later.

No dinosaurs here, either, DR Elmore.

Sounds like you have things well-organized for your trip to LoC.  Guess you don't need a research assistant?

It was rather chilly this morning when I walked in the park with my Wednesday group.  It was somewhat warmer at 10:30 when I took Sherlock hiking.  Back home the smoke free  breeze is blowing in the opens windows and I’m chilled again.  Keith is outside working immensely enjoying the drop in temps.

I’m going to iron and move around so I can warm up.

In tribute to Estelle Getty I watched the pilot episode of the Golden Girls. Her makeup of is different in the first few episodes. The makeup looks a little theatrical at times. We shadowing visable.

I think her wig is also different.

But I can't actually put my finger on it.
