I stood at the intersection of 42nd Street and 5th Avenue for over 15 minutes waiting for a 104 bus, which should be arriving ever 7 minutes or so, according to the posted schedule. The 42 bus also runs part of the same 42nd Street route, and while I waited three damned 42 buses stopped. I don't know what the hell is the MTA's problem these days beyond gouging more money out of its passengers for really pathetic service.

I bussed up to 108th Street and dropped off the score, came back down, and now I have a bit of work to do on my BABES notes. I'm so glad this is my last jaunt to the main library branch.

DR elmore - I've always been meaning to ask...  Do you prefer to take the bus rather than the subway?  I know that the Lexington Ave. line may have been a block or two out of your way earlier today, but if I were you...   Just wundrin'.

...The news is, of course, having a field day reporting absolutely nothing they couldn't say in five minutes.  They'll keep this going all day and into the evening - I'm sure they're already calling it EARTHQUAKE: 2008!  accompanied by dramatic music.
I'm trying to imagine a news report accompanied by non-dramatic music.

The best I can come up with is some of Ken Thorne's incidental music from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, the movie version.

I love the 104 bus, and at 1:15 it should be pretty light. It lets me off a block from my apartment, well today at 108th & Broadway, and if I took the Lexington bus, I'd probably have to transfer to a crosstown one at some point. There's no reason for a posted schedule that predicts the 104 bus every 7 minutes to take between 15 and 20 minutes for one to show up.

And here's an observation or two today's auditions....

The word, "Seine", is pronounced "sehn", not like the word "sign.  It has to rhyme with the word "men".

-I'm still laughing about that one on the inside five hours later.  ;)
Even in NYC there are actors who think they only have to learn their lines, and not their meaning.

No wonder waiters get no respect.

Maybe the bus ran over someone and had to stop while they cleaned up the mess.

No, but others have.  She retired years ago and we didn't stay in touch.

DR MattH - As you rewatch - or "first-watch" - various episodes of old (and older) TV programs, have you been able to notice how and if the selling of more commercial network time has affected the pacing of the scripts in order to accommodate the shortening (not Crisco) running times?

Time to start fixing dinner.

Spatchcocked roast chicken.  Risotto.  And snow peas.

There's gonna be some cilantro, lime, ginger, garlic, and carrot involved, too.

Had a nice time putzing around downtown.  Der Brucer parked himself at the local bookstore while I went exploring.

One of the nice things: the local Methodist church has been converted into a theater and a mall.  Sounds appalling, but the Methodists had outgrown their building and were able to build a new one.  Since the old church was so beautiful, stately and brick, it will now house a local theater group and a mall of small shops and a restaurant.  The city council bent over backwards to make it happen, altering established ordinances.  So, everyone wins.

One of the not-so-nice things: a restaurant that had tried to be the Big Thing folded over the winter, to be replaced by another restaurant.  Only this one is combining Sushi and Latin flavors.  Oi.  And their posted prices are outlandish.  Der B and I will not be trying their fare.

Hey, everyone! :)  We are back from our trip to New York.  Just got back today.  I'll be sharing bits and pieces over the next few days.  We were suppose to return Sunday night late but our Jet Blue flight was canceled and they were not going to be able to book a flight for us until this Friday!  No sympathy, I'm sorry, or nothing!  We got a refund and after "crying in our beers" (not really), went to United and was able to get a flight back today but had to spend an extra approx $450 or so in air fare and then 2 more nights at a hotel.  Fortunately, AAA found us a hotel with a discount in the Soho/Lower Eastside area, not too far from Little Italy as well.

What a mess, huh?  But our trip, all in all was fantastic (however, I did sprain my ankle 2 nights after we got there.  Clumsy me!

A very Happy Birthday to dear Kevin.  I will hug him when I am lucky enough to see him again.  A truly sweet (and might I add, hunky) guy.

Todayt is also my mother's birthday.  This is the first birthday I haven't been able to see her or talk to her.  Since that is not a possibility in the world I inhabit, I shall drink a toast of orange juice in her honor.  I know she's happy and healthy again not on this earth.   :)   Talking with Jeanette MacDonald and Beverly Sills, I hope.

Hugs to you, Kerry, on your mom's birthday.

DR JulieC40 - Welcome home.  And I'm soooo sorry to hear about your travel woes - and your ankle too.  -I wonder if you happened to see bk in the JetBlue terminal on Sunday night since he was also dealing with the same travel woes.  -Alas/however, he did make it out of there on Sunday night.

I at least you hope you were able to enjoy the nicer weather here in NYC the past two days.  -And, hopefully, we'll all be able to meet up the next time you're in NYC.

*OH!  Did you make it to Levain?  ;)

I've received a couple of shipping notices from Amazon.com today.  This is the start of an oncoming onslaught of shipments of things pre-ordered months ago that are finally seeing light of day.  Next month and September will be interesting.

And thanks to some unexplained delay, October yields a future delight -- the second Alice Faye box from Fox.

How clever of Alice to have two!
