FOOD STAR SPOILER (IF THERE STILL IS SUCH A THING)

Watching "Ask Aida" - it seems very clear that Food Star finalist Adam Gertler's "concept" for a pilot show is totally duplicative of Ask Aida (as some suspected at the time), and there was no way they would have put the program Adam was proposing on the air concurrently with Ask Aida - so i imagine whatever other qualities Adam had, he must have been an untenable choice.

My least favorite fruit is a delcious apple. They don't taste very delicious to me. Other apple varieties are much more flavorful and fun. I also don't much care for leechee nuts. I've had them both un-processed and processed (from a can with syrup). Yuck.

I forgot leechees! They taste like burning rubber smells. Hate 'em!

Actually, DR Jose, we use them, too. Remind me, when we see you in a few weeks, to tell you my favorite story about the pre-made pie crust and the little old lady from church.

Speaking of that church (where we used to go), Richard and I are on our way there now for a memorial service for the missionary to Japan that the congregation supported for many years.

Well... Since I had received an unexpected/expected "surprise" in the mail this morning - Thank You, Lestat!

- I decided to run an errand. After I was done with said errand, I decided to walk back home since it looked like the rain had stopped and the skies were beginning to clear. Wrong!

So, I just spent the past couple of minutes draining and wringing about a gallon of water - yes, I'm exaggerating - out of my shoes and clothed. And, I had an umbrella with me!

*However, I was kind of surprised at just how much water my running shoes could absorb, hold. They should be try by September.

I've never had the knack for making pie crusts. I always want to keep working the dough - which makes them tough. Plus, I have "warm hands", so that doesn't help matters either. However, I have made a pâte brisée before, and those seem to be a bit foolproof. -Very Martha Stewart. I also prefer graham cracker/nut crusts too - just more flavor.

I actually like lychees. A can of them (thrown in the fridge for a bit to chill them) was a common dessert for us, usually coupled with some cubes of almond gelatin and mandarin oranges. I do like the fresh ones, however, the smell of the rind can get a bit overwhelming (like it does for rambutans and (worst of all) durians.

Favorite fruit foods:

Vanilla ice cream with strawberries
Vanilla ice cream with blueberries
Fruit smoothies

I had Panera's Poppyseed salad (or whatever it's called) yesterday and it was quite nice. Romaine with poppyseed dressing, plus pineapple, mandarin oranges, blueberries, strawberries, and pecans.

I wonder what I shall eat today. Ever since I found out how reasonable the Popeye's chicken breasts are, I've had a hankerin' to have two - but no biscuits - those are the killers there, especially when butter is added.

I want to eat about 1200 calories today - the last couple of days I've done about 1000, which, I think, is just a little too low for me. But I also want to keep under twenty grams of fat today.

Sounds like you need to take a day off from jogging in order for your calves to properly rest and recover from the day before.

ANOTHER FOOD NETWORK STAR SORT OF SPOILER...

I still don't like Lisa Garza.

In her pilot episode, she kept mentioning a zabaglione. She says it's an Italian "sauce". However, I do have to wonder why she keeps pronouncing it á la Française, sabayon? It was the French who adapted the Italian dessert, zabaglione, into a more savory sauce. And if she really wanted to "simplify" it for her viewers, then she should have just called in a custard sauce, since that is what it is. *ERRATA - I guess she did say it was a custard sauce, but her mixed pronunciation of zabaglione/sabayon still drives me crazy.

-And does she really think her makeup looks natural? And did anyone tell her otherwise? And her hair style makes it look like a wig too.

ANNOYING!!!! And I'm so happy she "went home a loser" (her words).

Yes, the two seasons of Torchwood have been broadcast in the USA already, on BBC America.

Season three is still in the works, and has not yet been broacast in England. It will be a short season, consisting of five episodes in a single story arc.

BTW, the fourth season finale of Doctor Who contains spoilers about the ending of Torchwood's second season. Just a warning, if you don't want to watch things out of order.

DR singdaw - I meant to mention this the other day when you were talking about snacking on a handful of nuts...

Trader Joe's sells packages of almonds - and now trail mix, I believe - in pre-packaged "Just A Handful" packs. And their "convenience" mark-up is not that much either. -However, I do wish they would pre-pack both raw and dry-roasted, unsalted almonds, since they are most beneficial when raw.

I need to get me some nappage in. The workday started way too early, and even though I'm off early, too, nappage will be appreciated.

I cart-wrangled today. It wasn't hot and muggy, like it was last time. In fact, the temperature was quite nice. But it was still fairly damp. It gets like that during thunderstorms.

Fortunately, we have the lights up on high poles out in the parking lot, so I wasn't too worried about the lightning, since I wasn't the tallest thing out in the yard.
