Good morning, all! I commented on George Furth's death yesterday afternoon, but I misspelled his last name.

I'm not sure what's on today's agenda; NYPL at Lincoln Center, for sure, as well as some Lady of the Slipper work.

DR Jose, how long is the Bolt Bus ride from NYC to DC and where does it stop in DC? I assume it leaves from Port Authority?

I'm still wondering what the hell is going on with the check from the July 19 concert, especially since the work was finished on June 17! I'm starting to get really really pissed over this jerk's delays. I thought I might go down to DC this week, but I thought I'd have the cash to do it by the end of last week.

Ah! I just hit my milestone! (Oh, that sounds painful!)

It's usually FJL or George who notice. I just happened to see it.
Do I get a sparkly prize, Bruce?

:(

And how long would you like the moratorium to last?

TRAVEL VIBES to VIXFAMILY. I really hope you don't encounter that AWFUL US Customs agent coming back to the US. It's been ten years or so since my tussle with him and I still seethe. VIBES for a great trip.

TOD;

I'm not a westerns fan, but I've always loved YOJIMBO. I'll let all of you decide whether you want to call that a western or not. :)

It is...if you call it A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS.

TOD:

I used to not care much about westerns and had only a bare handful that I could even tolerate. In the last ten years, it's probably the genre I've grown to love the most. My favorites:

THE OX-BOW INCIDENT

HOW THE WEST WAS WON

MY DARLING CLEMENTINE

THE GUNFIGHTER

STAGECOACH

HIGH NOON

ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

THE SEARCHERS

THE BIG COUNTRY

JOHNNY GUITAR

And if they count: CALAMITY JANE and ANNIE GET YOUR GUN

My favorite orchestral score of all time (any genre) is HOW THE WEST WAS WON.

Finally NCIS is finished with repeating shows from season 4, so I'm looking forward to recording tonight's rerun and watching it in HD at 10 skipping through commercials.

Hmmm... from the sound of my wording above, it seems that I'm saying I like westerns better than any other kind of film. That's not what I meant. Of the genres I didn't care for (western, war, horror), westerns are now among genres I really enjoy. Nothing will ever supersede musicals and mysteries as my two favorite genres.

Today I'll be slaving away on the Blu-ray of NIXON: The Election Year Edition. Just like this election year we're experiencing which seems to have lasted about three years, NIXON has had footage put back into the theatrical cut so that it's now 210 minutes long. I doubt I'll even be able to watch the entire feature this afternoon unless I extend my usual viewing time.

Since macchus made his intentions clear about the playing of the Initials Game and his at-its-roots rivalry with bk over the most names posted, let me aid their competitive fever by forever removing myself from all future competitions. I only post a few each week anyway so my contributions won't be missed, but knowing what's actually going on does not make it a fun experience for me any longer.

Good morning everyone!

We really enjoyed [title of show] last night.  They had a pretty good crowd, who also enjoyed - but none of the frantic fan adulation, which was nice.

After the show, we walked about and had dessert at Carnegie Deli.

This morning, a lovely outdoor rooftop breakfast atop the Yale Club, next to Grand Central, and then off to the Observation Deck of the Empire State building.

Now we're back in our room relaxing for a little bit before heading out to tour The Waterfalls by water.

I'm lagging hopelessly behind on the posts...  :(

Oh, and DR JoseSPiano, thanks for the offer.  What we all need is for you to organize your recommendations by neighborhood on your blog for easy access!  :)  Combing through your years of posts at HHW would be fun but daunting.

Sorry, DR FJL - at a quick glance, the review looked like it was crediting both Terrence and Skip with the melodies and lyrics.  I do understand what you're saying.

My favorite western score is from a virtually forgotten Samuel Fuller film, RUN OF THE ARROW, which starred Rod Steiger.

I wish somebody would put this one out on DVD.

The score was by Victor Young.  I believe it was his last.

I've never forgotten it.

Another western that I really like is:

THE BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE.

It's my favorite Peckinpah.

I'm also partial to CHEYENNE WARRIOR w/Kelly Preston, but I'm not sure if I should mention that one...since I wrote it.

While those may be macchus's intentions they are not mine and I encourage all to continue to play the game and have fun.  I'll be discussing this with him privately, and we will be limiting ourselves to fifteen each (I PROMISE to be strict about this myself) until morning.  While I definitely have a competetive edge while playing the game privately, on the site it's not about winning and losing, it's about fun, so that's what it will be and should be.  I haz spoken.

I appreciate DR macchus' comments last night about "the game" and its intent.  Yes, it does get a lot of participation because we all enjoy fun.

I would like to point out that few of the names he and BK post in the initial flurry are names we would not know.  In fact, they are often the names that spring to mind most readily.

We are a very erudite group of people -- and to suggest that movie composer names and sports names would be somehow beyond us seems a bit shortsighted.  "We", as a group, know quite a bit about many things, sports and movie scores included.

We do not, however, get a head start by knowing initials in advance so we aren't able to post them so rapidly from a pre-prepared list.

I wonder....do the HHW forum members' names fall into BK's column?  If so, I don't think there could much of a contest!   :D

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I ended up falling asleep with my bedside lamp on last night, so, consequently, I don't think I got that good a good night's sleep.  I don't think. I think.

Our high today is going to be a bit higher than that, but the humidity is (so far) missing, and that makes the morning SO wonderful. I've been just soaking in the fresh air and slight breeze as it's wafted in through my office window. Just wonderful to have this in August.

DR elmore - The Bolt Bus takes about 4 hours each way.  It's all dependent on traffic.  They have two pick-up spots here in NYC - near Penn Station, and one downtown in Chinatown (I think).  Their drop-off/pick-up point in DC is in Chinatown - with easy access to either MetroCenter or Gallery Place Metro stations.
