Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I can't believe they ran in the rain - on the Olympics that is. Cool!

bk - Now that you've given up reading the theatre chat boards, maybe you need to stop reading the IMDB too.  ;)

Did y'all miss me there for a while?  I had to log off abruptly when someone from IT showed up to replace my computer.

Back in business now!

I don't really read the imdb, but whenever I see something that I think is really bad, I do find it both interesting and amusing to see that there are always people who find every movie some kind of hidden gem or masterpiece - I don't think it's ever failed, except in one or two instances.

Good morning!

Very humid this morning and not cool like the last week, so the house stays closed up with the A/C called in for duty.

I could fill the entire page with stuff from THE GREAT RACE which i think is memorable. I love Jack Lemmon as Fate masquerading as the Prince and barking at the Prince's adorable pugs, "Get off the bed" and "I hate you." Makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Lemmon's tango with Joe E. Brown alternating with Curtis' seduction of Monroe is one of the most inspired sequences in all cinema.

So far, so good.  I made sure they saved my favorites - last time they replaced a CPU for me I lost them!

I saw WHAT DID YOU DO IN THE WAR, DADDY? as a teen, and I remember being dreadfully disappointed with it. After seeing so much memorable Blake Edwards, I had SUCH high hopes for this, and it just sank like a lead balloon.

Favorite comic moments?

1. Richard Libertini's turn in the original version of THE IN-LAWS.

2. Abbott and Costello's "Slowly, I turned..." routine.

They always make me LOL.

The scene where the family is driving in the mountains in their camper and the refrigerator opens and the melons roll up and down the aisle all through the mountain range.

Oh wait. That was one our our trips.

On TV Tonight:

BURN NOTICE!!

Margaret Cho's new show (styled on Kathy Griffin's MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST) starts tonight. I won't be watching. I'm sure with its being on VH-1 that I'll get the first season set on DVD to review at some point. I'll wait for that.

*Now if that "scene" should happen to appear in a movie sometime next year or the next, well, I guess that would be evidence of lurkers.

The UPS man just left and I went down hoping it would be the Blu-ray of THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, but it wasn't. Instead, I got two animated discs: one an animé AVENGERS disc on Blu-ray and the other was an ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS parody of Indy Jones. Ugh.

It's interesting about The Great Race - it's a movie I thought I'd love as a teen - I went to the Pantages and saw it, and while I liked it, I found a lot of it forced, which was unusual for me at the time - still I went back a couple of times.  And I don't think I've ever sat through the whole things since, so I may have to take it out this evening when I return from the Gardenia and give it a spin.  I do remember loving the title sequence and loving Miss Wood and Miss Provine, and the great score by Mancini.  I think it was the first time I hadn't thought Jack Lemmon at the top of his game.  It'll be interesting to see it again.

So, it looks like it will indeed be SALO this afternoon and evening. It's a two-disc set, so I'll watch the almost two hour film this afternoon and then do the bonus features tonight.

I don't know about jogging at eight - still pretty groggy to joggy, but maybe I'll go get in my jogging attire - maybe that will inspire me.
