On his side.  It started back in January when I took him in for his yearly shots.  I asked about it then and was told it wasn't worth doing anything about.

Well, it was fairly small at the time.  Then it grew to the size of baseball so I took him back to the vet.  She said because of his age, we should wait and see if it would stop growing.  It got bigger, I took him back again because I couldn't stand it.

At that point she said that I should consider having him put down because she felt he would not make it through the surgery and because of the cost of the surgery.

I thought about it I couldn't do it.  I had to try--no matter the cost.

They never even acknowledge the concept of "birth control."  It's ONLY "abstinence." :P

Well, abstinence is the only 100% effective method of birth control.  If only the teenagers could be convinced of this fact.

Frankly, I think the public should butt out. Sex-education is a parental responsibility; only in our left-leaning society do some parents take it upon themselves to require a certain form of sex-ed be pushed on kids at school - the argument being that since the "bad" parents don't teach it at home, we must do it at school.

Thanks all.  He looks so sorry right now.  One half of him is totally shaved and the stitches are all the way across his side.

He had drains but they came out today.  I'm just scared about that stitch that broke.  Like I said, I had the same thing happen and it took a few months for that thing to heal.

Enough about Bear.

I disagree. I think the moral right and its prudish standards require sex ed be taught and birth control discussed.  The concept of abstinence is as ridiculous and futile as the "just say no" drug campaign.

I appreciated the young "hip" teacher who taught sex-education at the middle school.  He had a meeting to discuss the program with the parents, most of whom showed up.  If we didn't approve his course our children didn't have to take it.

To wax political for just a moment...

Obama says that people's families are "off limits."

But they are not.  To the extent that evangelicals and conservatives vilify my family in their cynical attempt to garner hate votes, I shall be scrutinizing their families in equal measure.  And so far, their actions don't measure up to their words.

IMHO.

You do realize that Obama is not for gay marriage and Biden voted in favor of the defense of family act, so he isn't either.

In regards to Palin and her daughter - From what I've read - which, I'll admit, isn't much - Palin taught and advocated "abstinence", not "birth control".  There is a difference.

And since when did teenage daughters ever listen to their parents?   ;)

Anyone else download Google's new web browser, "Chrome?"

I read about it and will look into it when I get home.  I can't (of course) do anything like that, here at work.

Where is the justification to use Mr &Mrs Smith's tax dollars to preach material that they do not wish their children to learn?

der Brucer

Don't get me wrong, on this issue I'm so progressive I'd support discussing abortion as a birth control fall-back.

Happy Foster Kitten Story:

A friend of Sandra's brought over a tiny orange kitten with an extremely LOUD meow. The kitten was four weeks old and the girl had been feeding it strawberry flavored milk. I named her Twinkie (she was the size and color of one).

We grew her up, but she was so playful that she drove the adult cats crazy. When we were going on vacation, I asked a neighbor to feed the adult cats, but I asked a friend of mine to take care of the kitten, since we wouldn't be around to rescue the old ones from the rambunctious kitten. Friend agreed, but insisted WE MUST TAKE THE KITTEN BACK when we returned from vacation.

The day we came back, my friend said "You can't have her back; I am keeping her." Turns out that Twinkie and her kitten Lacy took to each other right away and played and slept together.

This was in 1995; the last I heard a few months ago, Twinkie and Lacy were old ladies, still happy in their home together.

That is my favorite story, ever!

True - and McCain is not ant-gay. (Much to the great distress of the gay-left, LCR today endorsed McCain.)

Good Evening!

Well, when I headed out earlier, I walked from here down to Columbia University - 145th Street down to 113th Street.  Then it was down to 104th, across to Central Park... Along the North Meadow to the Reservoir... And then around the Reservoir for a lap and a half.  So, yes... I got a good walk in today.  :)

A form of sex-education was taught when we were in high school, as part of the Health class.  Unfortunately an epidemic swept the country requiring additional education in this matter.  The dispute is the best way to teach it.  I'm not sure any of the methods are working.

When I was 17 my mother told me to go to my parents if I got pregnant & my father would arrange an abortion for me.  Remember, it was illegal back then.  At that very moment I realized I could not have an abortion so I had better not get pregnant. ;D
