I've watched the first 1 hour 45 minutes of So You Think You Can Dance Canada (mary murphy is the guest judge). It is just the preliminary auditions. But one thing they are doing (which i love, and which is very different from the US version) is so far they have not shown any bad auditions.

They showed a)people who got through to the toronto finals and b)people who made it to Season One SYTYCD US Blake's choreography.

I've always hated watching the worst dancers. I don't know that they will continue this. But very enjoyable.

TOD
I received an email from BK telling me about the blog. I had written to him to tell him I enjoy his work and was sorry to see him leave that other place. I don't think I came on the very first but sometime after that

My goodness, what a busy night of viewing I've had! Can't believe I got so much watched.

I began by watching all of the bonus features on THE LOVE GURU disc. Even though there were a lot of features, most were under 10 minutes and none very interesting. Well, the blooper reel was kind of fun and the outtakes with Myers desperately trying to improv something funny since the script was bankrupt of humor just fizzled.

Next, I watched HOW THE WEST WAS WON on Blu-ray. First, I moved my chair about 5 feet from the screen and then I got the rear speakers moved so that the sound in the rear speakers would be better placed and directional as the movie played.

I could NOT disagree more strongly with bk about the color vibrancy and depth of focus of the smilebox version of the movie. Yes, there were some scenes where blue skies were very light blue but many, many more when the depth of blue was eye-shattering. Everything that I could see was DEEPLY saturated, and I began to notice things like the construction of the bodice of Debbie Reynolds' ball gown when she sings "Home in the Meadow" on the riverboat. SO MUCH DETAIL and SO CLEAR. Amazing.

And unlike DR td, the smilebox was a thrilling experience, as close to Cinerama as I'm ever likely to experience again with the side distortions seeming very familiar to what I remembered experiencing when I saw it in Cinerama all those decades ago. The buffalo stampede especially seemed just like I remembered it in Cinerama, and that train robbery sequence at the end was magnificent.

I listened to the Dolby TrueHD track which was a rich though only somewhat enveloping experience (nothing to compare to the sound design of modern action pictures).

All in all, I couldn't have been more thrilled to have this film at long last in the best shape it's ever likely to be in on home video in my lifetime.

I had planned to get all my homework done for the institute but just got too busy with work. So, I may have to find a place to hang out in Bethesda and do some work tomorrow instead of touring.  There has to be somewhere I could just plop down and write a mandamus petition

Starbucks.

*Actually, "downtown" Bethesda has lots of cool places to hang out.  -And maybe even your hotel lobby may be a good place to write a mandamus petition.

Next, I finished PROJECT RUNWAY finally.

I got a huge laugh from the comment that it looked like she was "pooping fabric." It DID look that way when she turned around. That person definitely needed to leave. As for the other person eliminated, I think her uncooperative attitude of not making it a team effort did her in more than the garment. I was really surprised they were so critical of it. On the runway walk, I thought it looked MUCH better than the animal skin collar thing she showed at the party the night before.

Who did the 'scorpion" dress? That's the one I thought should have won though Jerrol's creation was an acceptable winner.

And then I was also able to watch tonight's BURN NOTICE (playing catch up with the VCR while it was recording.) Excellent episode. Nice to see Tim Matheson acting (and he also directed the episode).

I did think that Fiona's new boy friend was going to turn out to be one of the hired assassins, so that fooled me.

I thought I came in sooner than that.

Well I found and earlier posting saying that I won the trivia contest.

01/07/2002: Which was BK posting #62

nd the answer is: The show was A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The actress who was fired on the road (in the role of Philia) was Karen Black. The actress who replaced her was Preshy Marker. And the actress who did the role in the first national tour was none other than Miss Donna McKechnie. Congratulations to our High Winner, Mr. Michael Shayne, and our subsequent winner, who is batting 100%, Paul Fairie. If Mr. Michael Shayne will get us his handy-dandy address, we, in turn, will send him his handy-dandy prize.

So I wonder if I was reading but not posting but I no longer know the answer to that.

The treasure hunt is getting interesting,

DR Cillaliz - Thanks for the weather reports and news items.  -Now what about your homework? ;)

Well....tomorrow night we don't have to be prepared, so it really isn't until Saturday morning. I'll work on the plane in the morning.  I'll get it done. I always do.

I do have to say when I did this sort of thing as a young lawyer I was always insulted when the "older" lawyers weren't prepared.  Now it's me and I understand it completely.

OKAY I was mention on 12/24/2001: which was posting #48.

BK mentioned I was a previous trivia contest winner. So I had to been on before this date.

And the hunt goes on

They want us to write out questions for examinations.  I haven't done that in 20 years.  I just learn the case, know the points I want to make and do it.  So, we'll see what happens. I have a feeling I'll be fine.  The mandamus petition on the other hand, I really do need to do that.

I'll be requesting this. :D

Speaking of HTWWW:  I have received two extremely lengthy and lovely emails from a gentleman who's evidently a multi-Emmy winning makeup artist who happened to have been friends with Newman and Darby and who has gone quite a bit out of his way to compliment my writing.  It's so nice to hear from people when they enjoy something they've read, as I'm sure MattH will agree, especially when they're well versed in the subject.  These tomes are going into my keep pile.  ;)
