It does sound like the formula has worked for what NYMF seems to feel are its objectives, and I guess we have to accept that NYMF's objectives (like those of any festival) have to be about promoting NYMF, so that it can continue and crucially be there for developing musicals in future years.  I hope it's not controversial to say that a festival probably has to care about having a few shows a year that go on to lives outside the festival, and can't really concern itself with which specific ones do have those lives.  I'm sure they're touting the later life of Brain from Planet X when they have the info, and they've also given Last Starfighter good publicity when we had our further development in Seattle (OK, actually Issaquah) - the cumulative effect of lives-beyond-NYMF are helpful for NYMF, but they need one or two big ones a year - and  even if they only have two shows a year flourish in a notable way, that's seen as a successful festival by the public, by donors, and by others wanting to be part of the festival in the future.

Will anyone be participating in Earthdance Peace Prayer today? It is supposed to be a world wide event.

Earthdance Miami will be webcast LIVE and we will have screens streaming footage from Earthdance festivals in Greece, Australia, California and Amsterdam.

Dare I state that both Brain From Planet X and the musical of Last Starfighter are both better off as properties for having done NYMF, notwithstanding any "aggravation" (for want of a better word) may have been involved - especially with such "aggravation" having been a year in the past?

I suspect Noel would also think that his show, Such Good Friends, also is better off as a property for having done NYMF, not to mention Noel himself as a marketable talent.

Almost done here in Central Park, and then we will start making our way down 5th Avenue: The Apple Store, FAO Schwarz, MoMA, American Girl Place (gifts for the nieces), Rockefeller Center, etc. And then we will head down to South Ferry to ride the ferry. Or at least get a good look at the water.

I think BK should thank FJL for the "repeat three times" suggestion.  It hasn't helped my eye quite yet, but think how bad the post total would have been yesterday without it!

The Dare of Fred - that's the title of my next cartoon.

(Done in the style of Chuck Jones, of course.)

But until singdaw does that :)  here's that great Mohegan Sun/My Sharona TV commercial that was all the rage not too long ago.

Have we ever found out who the Broadway dancers in this ad were?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hog6OOAKfI

What is Mohegan Sun?  Or maybe the question should be 'where?"

Good Afternoon!

Greetings from the southeast corner of Central Park. John wanted to have his face drawn by one of the "freelance artists" that line the paths here, so his father and I are taking a little sit-down break while he's being rendered in charcoal.

Why no photos???

Cilla, what a shame that you aren't feeling well.  Try to salvage some fun from this trip - you deserve it.

Hi all. I went out and got some food near the hotel and some Claritin.  I still don't feel too hot.  I called my mom and she said, "Well, why don't you try to get an earlier flight home, then"  Since I wasn't scheduled to leave until 7:30 tomorrow night I decided that was a good plan.  I called Midwest and the change fee wasn't bad at all, so I decided to change to the 11:00 AM flight tomorrow.  I will have to get up early to get the rental car returned and get to the airport, but it's better than getting to my house close to midnight (after the drive from Omaha).

Well, we ended up taking a little over to the Nespresso Cafe/Boutique on Madison Avenue. We're having some coffee and pastries with one of my brother's Coast Guard buddies, Steve.  -Who I believe has graced these pages before. Hmmm... Caffeine and sugar. :)

It's funny, but while I don't feel well, I don't feel bad about the trip.   I am thinking of going for a drive.  Theodore Roosevelt Island looked interesting. I know I have to be going north on the George Washington Parkway to get there, but it looked like there are placed to park.   If I get stuck in traffic, I get stuck in traffic.  I'm not in a hurry today.

I agree with much that you say, but feel bad (as I did last year, and not especially for me personally) for the shows that get none of the NYMF promotion - such as the show that these guys I've spoken to several times are doing.  I know they're feeling the same frustration we all felt last year.  But in the end, NYMF is a good thing that could be better with some careful thought and changes.

Back from the long jog.  I decided not to wait and see (like yesterday) if the overcast would burn off.  It did, about five minutes before I got home.  Figures.
