I'd asked the other day about the DVDs, and then today, and when no one responded I just took them over to Amoeba, where I got very good credit - and happily they had a very pricey CD set that I had to have - five George Shearing albums on four CDs, from what he recorded for MPS label in the late 1970s, including one never before released album - that one is with full orchestra, spectacularly arranged and conducted by the brilliant Robert Farnon.  Considering it's an import and five albums on four CDs, the price wasn't that bad, but my credit more than covered it and several other CDs.  I looked at the DVDs, but nothing caught my eye, really, and I really, even with credit, balk at paying full price for their DVDs.  But this Shearing orchestral CD is so beautiful.

The other four albums are all trio albums - piano, bass, guitar.

Today I went to the dentist, then I went to the doctor to get a script for bloodwork so I can get my thyroid meds renewed then I came home and did some laundry, then took the Vixter to the dentist,


The day better then.  The Vixter's high school team had theri first official soccer game, which they won 3 - 0. Vixgranparents and Vixdad and I were all there to watch the game.  Afterwards we went to the local diner for lunch.

The Vixter was "dying for onion rings" since she read the description of  Adrianna's onion rings in Murder in the Grove this morning

I just can't think of many things that are more pleasurable than listening to George Shearing play the piano - a true poet, and these charts by Farnon are so lush and beautiful.

It was basically a baked "custard" - at least that's how it was described.  However, it just tasted like a really good timbale of French toast.  ;)

I went to the Studio City Cafe with a friend and had my usual barbecue chicken sandwich and teeny-tiny salad and we split the wings, so four wings.  So, I'm just fine and dandy, what with the long jog and all - of course, I really have a hankering for some CAKE or PIE, but I shall be strong.  I may eat one of those 100 calorie packs of cookies that I seem to have but don't remember buying.

That album of Shearing/Farnon was faboo and will be getting many plays.  Now I'm going to try and watch something, and then I'll move on to the trio albums.

Well, I cleaned my plate - which consisted of a serving of corned beef hash, a single egg over-easy, and two slices of rye toast.

The French toast, bacon, eggs and toast in the middle of the picture were what John ordered for himself, and I believe he did a pretty job of almost finishing all of that.

I can recommend Cafe Mosconi at 69 McDougal wholeheartedly: my filet of sole was one of the most scrumptious things I've ever tasted, and everything ordered by the 14 guests and birthday boys looked absolutely amazing.  I had a small bit of champagne to toast the three of us, and when I got home and tested my glucose level, it was only 76; Eat your heart out, DR MBarnum!

So, after all this madness about posts today, I cetainly didn't expect to come home to 11 pages of posts. I suppose there's something to be learned but I have no idea wtf it may be.

And, finally... Here is Uncle Jojo and his nephew after having visited The Apple Store, FAO Schwarz, MoMA (there's a story for this one ;)), the Nintendo Store, etc., etc., etc...

We picked up some birthday presents for my niece, Alyssa - John's sister.  -Her birthday is next week.  Her father bought "Mia", and her uncle bought the coordinating pajamas and some accessories.

He played in my hometown when I was in high school.  The concert had a big impression on me. I loved the music, of course but he was also very friendly and kind to us
