Ann, have you seen those spring-suspended infant chairs you suspend from door-ways; you plop the kid in, give it a gentle tug, and he soflty bounces away to his hearts content. (They also have spring-operated seats that sit on the floor as well, I think).  Grandlad William would doze for hours in those!

I have one, der Brucer, but I can't use it yet.  Toby has to be able to hold up his own head, he's working on it but he's not quite there yet.

LATIMES

Quote
Apple donates $100,000 to fight same-sex marriage ban

Apple is contributing $100,000 to fight Proposition 8, the California ballot measure that would define marriage as only between a man and a woman. The company's announcement today came as the fight over Prop. 8 grows hotly contested, with recent polls showing the race tightening.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company said in a statement:

Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees' same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person's fundamental rights-- including the right to marry -- should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.

Apple becomes the latest prominent Silicon Valley company to speak out against the measure. Google's founders gave $140,000 to the "No on 8" campaign -- $100,000 from Sergey Brin and $40,000 from Larry Page, the San Jose Mercury News reported today. The Internet company, based in Mountain View, Calif., had earlier taken the unusual step of publicly opposing the measure, which would ban same-sex marriage, saying it would have a "chilling and discriminatory effect" on many of its employees.

Stand-by for the whackos to call for boycotts!

I watched the first hour of the 2 hour premiere of THE STARTER WIFE (it just started here).

I like it so far. But my one complaint is that i feel like they've expected that we watched the minseries (which was not available here). And that bugs me. They did do a recap at the beginning of the show. But they didn't at all explain who the characters are. I really think they should have treated the first show as if people HAD NOT watched the miniseries. Because i feel like i'm missing a lot.

Good - and, yes, he does need to have the head-manage bit down first.

I'm sure that'll give you many hours of non-holding time.

My God, we're back to normal! Good afternoon, all.  I've been workingon the medley from THE STUDENT PRINCE this morning; I had my trek to the LincolnCenter NYPL, and I've been working on other things for a bit. I'm also seething over things beyond my control.

I hate being poor, and I hate the fact that this jerk's giving me second thoughts about offering extended payment options to others.

I bet Dolly Levi never gave "extended credit options" for arranging things!

You know she didn't. I'm sure it was cash on the barrelhead.

When singers need charts, and often many at a time, I like to offer them extended payment periods; the work's more important and I know how cabaret folk especially live hand to mouth. I usually insist they pay the copyist in full and work out something with me. Once the work is finished and the initial payment is made, it's all found money and I don't care generally how long they take to pay, but right now, because I lost work in August while I was sick, and because I've had to deal with estmated state and government taxes, a quarterly health insurance premium, prescriptions and medical expenses from nutritionist to physical therapist, I am currently in the hole. I thought i'd be getting the check for the property closing and that hasn't happened, the Library of Congress takes up to six weeks to pay for the LiFE BEGINS AT 8:40 invoices, I'm waiting for the next payment from the Herbert-Kern project, and I'm up to my ass in debt until something comes in.

One of the two singers owing me money had a deal to pay me half upon receipt, a quarter after the first concert using the charts and the last quarter within the year. I'm waiting on the last payment from her. At the moment, i'd be happy to get the final $1200 in 6 $200 payments.

In going through videos of shows I taped, I have watched Murphy Brown give birth, Evening Shade, Doctor, Doctor, Square Pegs.  Some like, "paper Chase" hold up better, but still......All shows with real writing, real acting, real direction.  No "reality" here, bub!

The videos have all been used so many times to record show after show that they are not worth keeping.   Great shows, lousy tapes.

Yes, it does seem that we are back up.

It's 12:41 here in New York. I'm finishing work on Robert Wood Johnson and then I head to Long Island for the weekend.

Anthony has returned to New York after a 15 hour drive from Chicago to Manhattan. He's now on Long Island sleeping it off.

Give Ant a big welcome home hug from me!

JMK,

Have you take on  Amazon.com for their own editorial opinion on Frances:

I only got lightly sprinkled on by the rain when I was out running my errands, but I got everything done. Was glad to be back home. And I finally did break down and turn on my heat. The house was 56, and it was just too cold to be close to comfortable.

I watched last night's SUPERNATURAL while I cooked and ate lunch. A real acting tour de force for Jensen Ackles, the show was loads of fun. And be sure to keep watching after the first credits come up at the end because he riffs on "Eye of the Tiger" much to the delight of the crew.

Then, I watched RIFIFI, the granddaddy of all caper movies. Brilliant in every respect and heartbreaking, too. And that climactic drive with the child in the car is one of the great directing feats (and yet much was done with rear projection.)

The transfer is the same as the last Criterion issue. Looks great for the first half and a little worn in the second half.
