Like DR Ginny, when I got to within 30 days of my retirement, I started a backwards countdown. My colleagues would ask me every day how many more days left, and I ALWAYS knew. I loved teaching but I knew I'd love retirement even more, and I have.

DR MattH - I've said for a while now that I love my job, but loathe the environment in which I have to do it.  That was one of my considerations for retiring, as was the desire NOT to become one of those people we whisper about - "Isn't she ever going to retire?"

Vibes for Stan, friend of DR TCB.  I hope he's resting comfortably in a real room now, not on an ER gurney.

On the war movies front, I forgot to add Richard Attenborough's OH! WHAT A LOVELY WAR!, which even DR MBarnum might find enjoyable, being an anti-war musical.
Also, FROM HERE TO ETERNITY - how could I forget this one? ? ?

I've had my walk, stopped at the market, and visited at Barnes & Noble.  I need to move some furniture about; when the property check arrives I want to buy 2 new filing cabinets and a chest of drawers, along with enough storage boxes to send a lot of things to Miami University Library.

Then back to Frank Loesser.

Vibes for Stan. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hopefully the long lines won't make anyone not vote.

I still don't really get why the lines would be so long. They are always encouraging people to vote. Yet it seems like they are not helping their cause.

But first I'll have a sandwich. My DS said the line was so long that he didn't wait around. After working a ten-hour night shift, he was too tired.

And the word of the day is: MAUGRE!

What Shrek looks like when he wears a pale shade of purple.

Get it?  Mauve and ogre?

Never mind, it's irrelevant.

My town has curbside leaf collection.  So this time of year, everyone rakes their leaves into huge piles at the sides of the streets.  And Zach doesn't seem to be able to walk past one without trying to jump in it.    :-\

Oh dear....I have to get over to Virginia and fix those voting machines.

 ;D

On your way stop & collect the absentee ballots that were mailed to the service men after the deadline.

I hope it doesn't come down to Virginia deciding this election. ::)

Taking a road trip to LA this weekend to see Case in two of the plays in UCLA's New Play Festival. He's loving UCLA -- and staying busy and happy.
Y'know, they do have the Internet in Los Angeles.  They're very up to date there.  He could write.

I'm not a huge fan of war movies either and I'm assuming when we're talking war we're talking like WWI or II, modern warfare...not necessarily historical films about wars...like the Civil War or Revolutionary or some ancient European war.  Nor films that depict civilians on the homefront or soldiers on leave.  I assume we're talking about soldiers in engaged in battles and modern warfare.

Of that ilk, however, I do have some that I'll watch over and over again:

PATHS OF GLORY
THE GREAT ESCAPE
THE DIRTY DOZEN
LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
GRAND ILLUSION

Quote from BK's notes:
Quote
...............and I had a little shrimp and crap in cocktail sauce for a snack a little later

   :P Yuck!  :P

It's all the latest rage in L.A., dontcha know...

Actually, the Little Shrimp was a piano bar in Laguna Beach.  That's in Orange County, don't confuse that with L.A.

The place is gone now, sad to say.
