Why did MR BK type up those invoices?  Why didn't he tell Miss Marmelstein to do them?

Here we fill out a form that asks if you are allergic to eggs (how appropriate today) and if you are you can't get the shot.  I'm not sure if there is anything else that might cause an immediate reaction.

Here they also ask if you are allergic to latex.

Maybe your doctor had other reasons for asking that question.

Okay but i guess my question is do people in the US wear the poppy?

Here at least i'd say every second person wears one. It is very widespread.

Forgot to mention that just as I was finishing my jog I ran into my pal Ed Begley, who was riding his bike down my street - we had a nice chat.

Hopefully that would be Jr.

Miss Allison Hayes was VFW Forget Me Not Girl for 1950, and she said it was the title she was most proud of.

Too bad Dakota wasn't in the audience.

I'll have to ask Woody when he's back from work - much later (after 11pm) - I'm taking him to Taco Bell to pick-up dinner.

For Remembrance Day here tomorrow (canada) many people where poppies on their jackets (actually for weeks before the day). I always thought they did that in many countries. I'm now assuming they don't do this in the US. But do they do it elsewhere?

In the United States, poppys are normally worn on Memorial Day, rather than Veteran's Day.

I would say it is far more popular to wear poppies where you live than anywhere I have lived in the U.S.  I personally can't ever remember wearing one.  It must be nice to see your many people wearing them.

DR Kerry, did you post something amongst those quotes?

It is easy not to scroll down far enough before commenting AFTER all the quotes.  Just a reminder to everyone since I know I'm not the only one who has placed my comment in the middle instead of at the end.

I don't recall wearing poppies either.  I guess the closest thing would be the Yellow Ribbons for the men and women overseas.

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.

John McCrae, 1915.

Well, desparate times call for desperate measures.

11PM is a little late to start cooking a meal.
There are no left-overs to re-heat.
Summer resort towns offer little off-season late-night dining opportunities.

And, truth to tell, TACO BELL is pretty good bang-for-the-buck (and I can get a Caramel Apple Empanada!)

(And a side of Pintos and Cheese to go with my Gorditas Supreme)

I've worn poppies every year at Memorial Day and Veterans day. The Vets and the Auxilliary give them out.  When I was a kid they used to pay us a penny a poppy to give them away and collect donations. I did that every year.

When I was growing up in Philly, they were ubiquitous on Memorial Day. (Red paper poppies with a VFW white tag attached). (If you weren't wearing one you would be constantly solicited!).

Poppies were originally worn to honor the war dead.  In Canada, that would be Remembrance Day.  In the United States, they can be worn for either Veteran's Day or Memorial Day.  However, they have tried to emphasize them on Memorial Day, so that Veteran's Day could be used to honor all Veterans, both living and dead.

Me too.  Especially on Memorial Day.

There was a re-dedication last Saturday of the Veteran's Memorial in my town.  One of the guests was Sammy Davis, a medal of honor winner who graduated a couple of years before me, but whom I know....he is a great guy.  In the second picture, you can see my elementary school....Newby School...the Memorial is on the corner of the lawn of the school and we took our hats off every day when we walked past it.  It is nice to see that it has been preserved, enlarged, and improved.....
