Good Afternoon!

Well, I did some more cleaning and organizing in my room.  Then I put on the new David Archuleta CD, and ended up taking a nap during most of the CD.  ;) :-\  ::)

Alas, still no sign of my keys.  However, I have yet to attack the pile of stuff on my desk, so, there's still some hope.  I hope.

I began my afternoon with Thursday night's SMALLVILLE. It was the Chloe wedding episode. It actually turned out to be an homage to CLOVERFIELD.

Next, I watched FRED CLAUS on Blu-ray. There are actually some funny, original ideas contained in this mess of a movie. But Vince Vaughn's wiseacre persona wears on me after a short time, and then we go from sarcastic mode to goopy sentimental mode while he makes things right. Ah, well, wasn't THAT predictable?

Still, grand set design and special effects, some of the best I've ever seen that turned John Michael Higgins into a really believable elf.

The Blu-ray is stunning to look at. Sharp as a tack, warm, brownish colors for inside and bright lifelike colors for outside. Deep blacks with superb contrast. Really one of the best video transfers I've seen.

Warners only went with standard Dolby Digital (although a high bit rate) for audio. It's fine, a typical movie comedy soundtrack.

I started watching the bonus features. The first two featurettes were forgettable. In the first, everyone stays in character to talk about the elves and working at the North Pole with Santa. In the second, some of the famous brothers in the film (Frank Stallone, Stephen Baldwin, Roger Clinton) talk about working on the movie.

I also listened to about half of the audio commentary (skipping around). The director is proud of his movie and it shows in his enthusiasm for every aspect of the picture in his talk.

I have three more bonus features to go (I think). If there's time left, I may start watching some Our Gang comedies from the box set.

Sweet photo.

Every time I looked at that post, I thought you had written Sweet potato.

Which actually made me think you had lost your gourd!

;D  Maybe you know I have a sweet potato I need to eat before it goes bad. ;)

I like sweet potatoes also, but as a HHW post on its own, it would still be strange.

I made candied sweet potatoes for a Thanksgiving dinner we had with about 25 friends last night.

....

I just wanted to get in on the conversation :)

I'm hopping off-line now to get some writing done and then will head back down to clean the guest bathroom, put away the sorted laundry, and then back to the home theater for more FRED CLAUS and then the evening's TV programs.

Early Thanksgiving with friends, sounds nice.  How did DS Toby do with so many people around?

Well, the Holiday Windows displays here in NYC are already being unveiled.

Here's a link to the traditional ones at Lord & Taylor.

And here are the "less" traditional, Hippie-styled windows at Barney's.

He enjoyed for the most part.  He spent a good chunk of the time sleeping in the wrap on my chest, so that was easy.  About 11 pm, though, he told us he'd had enough and we went home and went straight to bed.

But I have gotten two loads of laundry done, and cleaned the kitchen.  ;)

I have been conducting the choir in rehearsals and on Sundays for the past month while the church's Music Director has been recovering from serious eye surgery.

I am ready for her to return!   [I'm sure the choir is, too.]

You've got the right key, but the wrong key hole.

OK...  I guess I should get ready for my evening out on the town.  Not only will I be meeting up with our esteemed bk at Joe Allen, but then I'm heading to a self-belated birthday for a certain E&T ODR.  And then it's off to a late movie too.  Whew!  -Thankfully, I don't work until 11:00 tomorrow.

Laters...

I'm in the hotel and finally connected to the wireless Internet.  They charge here, but I paid for all ten days up front so I won't have to keep re-upping every day.  Hotel seems nice, fitness room is open twenty-four hours (which is GREAT), and the room itself is fine, but NOT what is shown on their website.  On their site, you see lovely widescreen TVs rather than the TV I have, which looks like it's from 1978.
