Next, I watched FRED CLAUS on Blu-ray. There are actually some funny, original ideas contained in this mess of a movie. But Vince Vaughn's wiseacre persona wears on me after a short time, and then we go from sarcastic mode to goopy sentimental mode while he makes things right. Ah, well, wasn't THAT predictable?
Still, grand set design and special effects, some of the best I've ever seen that turned John Michael Higgins into a really believable elf.
The Blu-ray is stunning to look at. Sharp as a tack, warm, brownish colors for inside and bright lifelike colors for outside. Deep blacks with superb contrast. Really one of the best video transfers I've seen.
Warners only went with standard Dolby Digital (although a high bit rate) for audio. It's fine, a typical movie comedy soundtrack.
