THE BIRTHDAY BOY
« on: December 08, 2008, 12:04:32 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were festive and birthday-like, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they tell me they'll be here later to celebrate my birthday.

Topic of the Day:  One of my absolute, all-time favorite Christmas songs is "All Those Christmas Clichés" by Lynne Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.  And Lainie Kazan's recording (the first, I think) on "A Cabaret Noel" is absolute perfection!

Roy Orbison's version of Willie Nelson's "Pretty Paper"  is a favourite.

I love the Christmas albums by The Carpenters.

Sort of a Christmas song - "Electric Trains and You" Bobby Vee is also one of my favourite songs of the season.

Of the more traditional variety, I like Bobby Vinton's version of "Oh Holy Night"

Good morning, all!  I have my annual physical exam at 9:30, and since I wanted to get some Happy Fella work accomplished this morning, I got out of bed at 6 am.  I've had my oatmeal, egg, and coffee, and I'm ready to work.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday Greetings to Our BK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!After my exam, I'm off to collect the ton of NYC Gay Men's Chorus charts I wrote over the past 28 years. I may carton them up and send them off to Ohio this afternoon. I need to wrap a few Christmas gifts as well today.

DR CharlesPogue, I agree with you and La Jolie Femme about MILK; great sense of period. I too was wondering whatever happened to the unpleasant Anita Bryant, because her star certainy fell hard after all that ugliness. My only memory of her from the Proposition 6 ugliness was the slogan ANITA BRYANT LIKE ANITA HOLE IN THE HEAD. Was that in Maupin's Tales of the City?

   White Christmas (The Drifters)

There's No place Like Home for the Holidays (Perry Como)
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (NYC Gay Men's Chorus, arranged by me)

I haven't gotten to read any of the TAR posts yet. But last night's finale was so exciting. I can't believe how exciting. So much tension!

It truly was a thrilling show. I loved it. One of the best episodes ever. But one thing i could not believe was how that fat lady sitting down almost changed the outcome of the race (the one that overheard the directions to the donut shop). She gave ken and tina the name of the place and a shortcut! That was so crazy!

It's funny that I can not be particularly fond of a holiday song, and then someone really sings it well, it that version becomes my favorite.....

Silver Bells & White Christmas - Doris Day

Santa's Toy Shop & Adeste Fidelis sung in French by Miss Gisele MacKenzie

There was a BIG inflatable yard ornament of Santa and Rudolph dancing.....today when I drove by, it was losing air, and Santa and Rudolph were wrestling on the ground.  Most unseemly.
