Reading the posts from Michael and the suggestions from Jose and Dan makes me realise I am most certainly in a different time zone - on a different planet!

DR Tomovoz, you have no idea how often I long to go back to that planet.

I did record CSI: NY which I'll watch tomorrow as I'm having a snack at lunchtime. I'm invited to a Christmas dinner tomorrow night, so I'll eat something very light at lunch.

I'm waiting for the Back to Baklava concert.

Is there one coming up?

And now my evening surf is completed and I'm going to head downstairs to bed.

Good night!

Cilla, I finished reading the new Titanic book.

What did you think?

I thought the book was carefully laid out, the theory was explained in enough detail to make sense, without overwhelming the reader, and I enjoyed the author's style.  I think that this book does probably reveal the missing piece of the puzzle that has lasted for 96 years.

Now, having said that, I was horrified by the author's lack of knowledge or research into previously known facts about the sinking; especially considering the pages of sources that he references at the end of the book.  Unfortunately, it is a little difficult to accept this bold new theory as fact, when the author doesn't know or seem to care about errors that he states as facts.

Hmmm you are making me more curious about the errors.  I've read a lot about the Titanic and it find it fascinating. I haven't focused so much on why it sunk as I have the stories of the people on board and the ship in all its grandeur. I'm not sure I know what mistakes you are referring to and would love to hear more about it

One small example is when the author talks about the Titanic shooting off red emergency rockets.  The rockets were white.  Now, that may seem like a pretty unimportant fact, except that a good portion of the testimony at both the American and British Inquiry into the sinking revolved around whether or not the white rockets fired by the Titanic, were the same white rockets seen by the ship, SS Californian on the night of April 14 - 15.  And, if so, did the SS Californian ignore an obvious distress call from another ship that night that was only a few miles away.  So, the color of the rockets in Titanic lore is a big deal, and not an unimportant fact.

I knew about the Californian controversy about whether they saw the flares, but I wasn't aware that there was an issue about the color of the flares.   You're right, you would think someone writing a book about this wouldn't make that mistake.

I know you probably mentioned it before, but how did you first get interested in the Titanic?

All that mumbo jumbo is one reason I have yet to get an IPod or MP3 player...I am just not sure if I could figure out how to work it all! It sounds all very confusing.

I think it was another occasion when DR TCB missed the boat.  Or was that the Cutty Sark?

"Why don't you just walk?"

I'm listening to Mr Michael Ball's "Back to Bacharach" CD. He uses the same effective (to me) gimmick of choosing songs usually associated with female singers.

Wasn't there a Bacharach tribute concert somewhere recently?

Yes, in Portland, but that was a few years ago.   ;D

Sad to say I'm laughing DR FJL.

I'm pretty sure that they said "Get your asp over to TCM tonight" to promote their Egyptian themed evening of movies.

Tonight, my wife and I watched THE GREAT LIE w/Bette Davis.

It was very slow going, then just when they got to the most dramatic part, they wrapped the whole thing up in 2 minutes.

Very disappointing.
