Jrand, films that I think have a good representation of the eras clothing would include:

1930s: Many good examples, but I will mention MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM as one that represents the early 30s very well, I think. Here you will see Fay Wray and Glenda Farrell in typical attire of the day.

1940s: Any of Universal's films of that decade...Vera West created the most wonderful outfits, what with those hats and dresses that were worn by Evelyn Ankers, Anne Gwynne, Lois Collier, et al...their shoulders were bigger then the actors'. The men's suits had a very nice cut and the ties were great.

I love this era of clothing and here are some fine examples of Vera West's work.

Kitty vibes for DR George.  I remember last year’s scare & hope this is far less frightening.

And karma vibes to all the nice people who helped you yesterday.

DR Jane re: freezing wedding cake. I know people freeze it. But do some people just save it?

We actually kept flowers from my sister's wedding (6 years ago) in the fridge. And they are still there! And doing well!

Now you tell me about the flowers-lol.  I think they are far too wilted to save.  As for the cake I think you have to freeze it.  Usually there is a top layer cake & the frosting helps keep it fresh.

My wife and I will be going to BK's Do tonight.

Have fun.  If we were in L.A. we would have to miss it and go to my brother's house.

Back from the dentist.  My rear-most wisdom tooth partially cracked off, below the gum line.  My doctor worked his usual magic.  Time shall tell if that did the trick, or if the tooth will ultimately have to be removed.  Thank G-d for insurance!!

:)  vibes it holds!

For the 1950s, I think that AIP of all the studios, did the best job of representing the clothing of the late 1950s...and that might be because so many of the actors and actresses wore clothing out of their own closet...

This shirt worn by John Ashley in DRAGSTRIP GIRL is a good example.

RUNAWAY DAUGHTERS is another example of the wardrobe used in AIP films of the 1950s.

Yukon Gold Potatoes: Jacques Pepin Style [Rachel Ray]

Prep Time:  5 min
Cook Time:  20 min
Level:  Easy
Serves:  6 servings

3 pounds baby Yukon gold potatoes
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
3 cups chicken stock
3 tablespoons butter
2 to 3 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley leaves

Place the potatoes in a deep skillet and add salt and pepper, to taste. Cover potatoes halfway with chicken stock, about 3 cups, add the butter and cover skillet with a lid. Cook the potatoes in the stock until almost tender, about 5 to 8 minutes, depending upon the size of the potatoes. Remove the lid and allow the stock to evaporate, about another 5 minutes. Once the stock has evaporated pop each potato using a ladle or large spoon, creating a small crack in each, but do not smash. Allow the potatoes to brown on each side, another 5 minutes, and re-season with salt and pepper, if necessary or desired. Remove the browned potatoes from the skillet and place onto a serving platter, garnished with the parsley.

Ina Garten's Fruitcake Cookies

Nobody really likes fruitcake, but they love these cookies—they’re so delicious!

Ingredients
½ pound dried figs
¼ pound raisins
¼ pound candied cherries, coarsely chopped
1 tablespoon honey
2 tablespoons dry sherry
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
6 ounces chopped walnuts
kosher salt
½ pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
½ teaspoon ground cloves
½ cup superfine sugar
1/3 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 extra-large egg
2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour

Procedure
Snip off the hard stems of the figs with scissors or a small knife and coarsely chop the figs. In a medium bowl, combine the figs, raisins, cherries, honey, sherry, lemon juice, walnuts, and a pinch of salt. Cover with plastic wrap and allow to sit overnight at room temperature. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the butter, cloves, superfine sugar, and brown sugar on medium speed until smooth, about 3 minutes. With the mixer on low speed, add the egg and mix until incorporated. With the mixer still on low, slowly add the flour and 1/4 teaspoon salt and mix just until combined. Don’t overmix! Add the fruits and nuts, including any liquid in the bowl. Divide the dough in half and place each half on the long edge of a 12 3 18-inch piece of parchment or wax paper. Roll each half into a log, 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches thick, making an 18-inch-long roll.

Refrigerate the dough for several hours, or until firm.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

With a small, sharp knife, cut the logs into 1/2-inch-thick slices. Place the slices 1/2 inch apart on ungreased sheet pans and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until lightly golden.

It works best if the runner outpaces the driver.

•   3 cups all-purpose flour
•   2 teaspoons vanilla

•   3/4 cup butter
•   2 cups brown sugar
•   1/4 cup milk

Lightly grease and flour 13 x 9-inch baking dish; Preheat oven to 350°F Cream together sugar, eggs, and oil; Add flour; mix together until well blended; Add vanilla, nuts, and diced apples.

Spread into pan; bake for 45 to 60 minutes; Cake is done when toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

When cake is done, punch holes in it with a knife and pour topping over.

Topping: Heat all ingredients together over medium heat; Bring to boil, stirring constantly; Let boil for about 2 minutes; Pour over warm cake.
