Would Batman participate in a no-pants subway ride?

Singdaw, are you singing Balthazar? One time, by accident (I guess) we had cast three black singers as the 3 Kings ... "Mother, there are 3 kings... and all of them are black!"

:D

A few minutes ago as I was reading this, I had to explain to Steve just why I was truly LOL-ing.

:D

*Which reminds me of when the understudy Richie would go on in A Chorus Line...

"My name is Richie Walters.
I'm from Herculaneum, Missouri.
I was born on a full moon on June 13, 1948.
...

-And then everyone offstage and in the pit would mouth, "And I'm white."  ;D

Have I mentioned how strange it was to have anticipated being without the internet (and thus HHW) for five days?

As for the Topic of the Day...

"The Carol Burnett Show"
"The Muppet Show"
"The Sonny & Cher Show"
"Pink Lady & Jeff" ;)
"Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters"
"The Starland Vocal Band Show" - I think this only ran and was scheduled for one episode, but since it starred local DC celebs - and featured their hit, "Afternoon Delight", well, it was a must see.  Heck, I still remember it.  -And, WOW, I just IMDB'd it, and noticed that David Letterman was one of the writers.
"The Donny and Marie (Show)"

Heck, I started breaking into a sweat yesterday when I realized that the WiFi was not working on the bus yesterday.  No, internet for six+ plus hours!?!?!

Thankfully, I remembered I could still access the interwebs via the 3G network.  Whew!  -But had the WiFi been working on the bus, I could have surfed the web a bit longer during the trip without running down my battery as fast.  That 3G net connection sure is a battery-eater-upper.

And what the sadly-short-lived variety show from the late 80's, possibly early 90's... I want to say it was hosted by John Candy. It was one of the first attempts to bring back a old-fashioned variety show to primetime TV.  Wasn't it called something simply like "The Big Show"?

I did.  Me.  Yoo-Hoo!

It was a cinch to find it at Amazon.com, too.

That, and a lot of other shows, too!

Hey, it did it again today! Is there a time limit for posting here at HHW? I logged on, had been posting and then all of the sudden I'm listed as a guest again, even though my name is still showing on the list of viewers line. So I logged back in again and now I'm Miss Karen again, and not "Hey Guest" ... What's the deal, Lucille? Or BK? Or any DR?

That's the anti-snark filter at work, I'm guessing!   :D

I knew the script was finally published a few years ago, I just didn't realize that works still under copyright were available on GBS.  -I guess I've spent too much time looking for public domain titles there.

*I'm wondering if the pending (re-)revival of Guys & Dolls will finally produce an official published version of the script/libretto available as a stand alone entity instead of being included in now out-of-print (I think) anthology.

Oh... Wow, I seem to be going down ACL Memory Lane today...

When I first did the show with Baayork Lee, it was very interesting - well, fascinating(!) - that when it came time for staging rehearsals, she would bring her original(!!!!) script into rehearsals with her, and we would all sit down on the stage and start comparing the different versions of the script: her original (with annotations!), the rental material from Tams-Witmark (still hate those sides?!?!?), and the published version.  That whole process really helped the members of the cast truly personalize their portrayals of the characters.  Any differences between the versions were strictly limited to some very small "tweaks" - usually just an "a" for a "the" or vice versa, but it would give them the freedom to make these "real people" truly real for themselves.

Ah... The King & I... My other "dream show" - the other one being Flower Drum Song, of course.

I lost count of the number of community theater productions that I saw while growing up.  -All those cousins - real and just friends of the family - to support.  ;)

Back from the long jog - the weather is indeed glorious - however, I must respond to the old goat (and I mean that in the nicest possible way) :)  Up until two days ago, the morning weather has been in the 40s, so yes, it's been a little chilly to run.

If anyone here is interested in the BD of Caligula, let me know.  I'll trade/sell it cheap.  The film is hideous, but the commentaries by Mirren and McDowell are a hoot and some of the bonus material is interesting.

The libretto was published in England as a stand-alone text in a "making of" book about the National Theatre of Great Britain production of the early 1980s. Its only other publication was in the Doubleday/Anchor anthology of Great American Plays edited by Eric Bentley. Vol 4, I recall.
