I just added the best foreign film, Vals Im Bashir', to my queue.  I'm wondering what else should be added.

I really liked "Waltz with Bashir".  From December 29, 2008:

Quote
As I was walking by Lincoln Plaza, I noticed that "Waltz with Bashir" was about to start, so... "Waltz with Bashir" I did.

What an amazing piece of film-making. It manages to be a cartoon/animated feature, a memory piece, a documentary and analysis of the troubles in Palestine in the early 1980's, particularly the massacre of a whole town/camp of Palestinians by Christian Phalangists.

The use of animation is used expertly to "portray" the recent past both realistically (as in news accounts) and in very personal, post-trauma-tinged memories and dreams. It managed to be Academic and entertaining at the same time.

Thank you for re-posting this.

I don't think Slumdog Millionaire will be on DVD in February, but I have a feeling it will be coming to a theater near all of us soon

...Oh I was just reminded of the rather monotonous soundtrack for "Revolutionary Road"... and the almost monotonous soundtrack for "The Reader"...

Think I'll recommend The Reader as my book group's book/movie selection for our traditional August anniversary celebration.

It's a good book. It was one of Oprah's Book Club books years ago...at least I think it was

DR DRUXY - I know two friends who joined DIRECT BUY.

Both made some major purchases.  One friend bought an entire EXPENSIVE dining room set, table and eight chairs, buffet and china cabinet, and a side board.

Three of the chairs were back ordered and arrived six months later, one of the glass windows in the china cabinet was broken, and the WHOLE thing had to be returned to be repaired....

The other person bought a bedroom set with several pieces.....which arrived piece meal over a period of about three months.

Neither was happy and would not recommend DIRECT BUY.....but I only have this SECOND HAND experience.

I am not watching the Golden Globe Awards either....

Thanks for the information.

We have decided to pass.

Did you see the link I posted for you?

We are currently reading MR PIP.  I believe it will be a hit.  I'll let you know after our discussion on Tuesday.

I'm having fun watching the Golden Globes and making a list of things to add to our Netflix list:

Recount
Burn After Reading
Bernard & Doris

Exactly what I'm doing

All 3 of these?

Why do the Globes show clips from the movie trailers instead of the movies themselves?

Sandra Bullock looks pretty bad....don't know if it's the makeup or she's been sucking lemons.

I always found Colin Farrell's sex video to be rather sweet and touching.

So... Why has Salma Hayek looked despondent all night?  -Even in the "bumpers", she never looked happy sitting at her table.

Do you mean Selma Hayek or Penelope Cruz?  I think Penelope has looked pretty sad tonight. Even after VCB winning best picture she doesn't look that happy. She smiled but her eyes were sad

They've both looked quite moody tonight.

DR Jose, you really liked The Wrestler, didn't you?

I liked it, thought the performances by Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei were real and raw... But it will be a while before I watch it again.  It's a very rough movie to watch on a couple of levels.  As I mentioned before, I winced a lot during some of the wrestling scenes - and the post-wrestling scenes. Not necessarily violent, but very graphic.

And I even got all choked up again when they showed that clip from "Slumdog Millionaire".  That's definitely a movie I want to see again before it leaves the theatres.  I just want to experience that amazing rush again collectively.

And it won too! :)
