Aretha Franklin's hat seems to producing a lot of chatter.  I thought it was just a hat.

Sometimes these classic songs need a trained singer with some breath control; I love Aretha, but I swear she sang "My coun (breath) try 'tis of thee." I thought we were heading into blue territory for a minute and what the hell would the FCC think?

The FCC would be grateful there wasn't a personal hygiene commercial scheduled right after.

I don't think I'll be watching the inauguration - I just don't enjoy those things and the media on THIS particular inauguration makes me want to vomit on the ground.

I'm feeling really good today:

Birds flying high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
Reeds driftin on by you know how I feel

(refrain:)
Its a new dawn
Its a new day
Its a new life
For me
And Im feeling good

Fish in the sea you know how I feel
River running free you know how I feel
Blossom in the tree you know how I feel

(refrain)

Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, dont you know
Butterflies all havin fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
Thats what I mean

And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me

Stars when you shine you know how I feel
Scent of the pine you know how I feel
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel

Its a new dawn
Its a new day
Its a new life
For me
And Im feeling good

Oh lordy, I'm really embarrassed. THANK YOU all so much for the lovely birthday wishes! I feel I was rudely absent from my own party. I work in the health care industry and November-December are open enrollment months, so I got very busy at work, but I promise I'll make an effort to be less "occassional" in the future.

(psssst...Mark's birthday is January 30th. He removed his birthday from his profile, but he can't run and he can't hide.)

Well, CNN ran a Blackberry commercial after President Obama's speech.  ;)

Good Afternoon!

Well... I have no real need nor desire to watch them eat lunch, and the parade... well... Since there are no floats, is it really a parade?  ;)

The discussion begins as to whether Pres. Obama meant to invoke the Dorothy Fields/Jerome Kern song when he pretty much  said "Pick Yourself Up, Dust Yourself Off"

Don't you want to see "TBDBITL"?   That stands for The Best Damned Band in the Land and it's the slogan for The Ohio State University Marching Band.  As a true Blue Michigan Wolverine, I've always thought that if you have to call yourselves that, you're probably not   8)

I would like to ask for vibes and prayers for total strangers.

Yesterday on the flight home, I chatted with a young woman with a small infant. Her husband was being sent to Iraq on a later flight, and she was going to stay with her family while he was gone (at least that was what I gathered).

I am so sad that this young family is being separated. I told her that a small church in Arizona would be praying for her family, but I figured extra prayers certainly couldn't hurt anything.

So, if you are so inclined, please keep Tamara and baby Alyssa and Troy in your prayers. We'll never know how things turn out, but whatever higher power one prays to will know who we mean.

And, yes, I know that sentence was a grammatical disaster, and I don't care; it is from the heart.

I thought he was invoking Guy Haines.

I swear some days I hate this new HHW upgrade.

And the word of the day is: FLOCCULATE!

Smoke on your pipe and put THAT in.
Global warming had bolloxed up the migratory patterns, and the gaggle of geese flew overhead days after hunting season was over.  All the weary hunter could do was say "FLOCC, U LATE!" and shake his head in dusgust.

COPENHAGEN'S NEW CONCERT HALL:

From the first picture, I take it this is well outside of the red light district.

I wonder if Abe Lincoln will pay a visit to the Obamas tonight...or, indeed, any of the other "spirits" said to inhabit the White House.

The coverage that I watched stated that this quote came from the film and I thought "Maybe bk would appreciate the speech after all!" :-)
