Good Afternoon!

Well... I have no real need nor desire to watch them eat lunch, and the parade... well... Since there are no floats, is it really a parade?  ;)

There aren't any clowns, either.

Well, there aren't supposed to be.

Well, tell them to send in the clowns.

Sounds like Senator Kennedy had a major seizure and Senator Byrd had some sort of medical emergency as well.  They are still trying to confirm this

Kerry, are you going to celebrate your birthday at the Super Bowl party with the rest of us?

I turned on Obama's remarks at lunch and he's pretty much confirmed that it was Ted Kennedy who collapsed at lunch.

Kennedy and Sen Robert Byrd were both taken away.

So weird because I watched Kennedy walk in on his own feet before the ceremony.  He was hobnobbing and blowing kisses to various faces up around the podium--he looked fine and in great spirits.

Who is going to watch the "Historic inauguration"?

I watched it and recorded it...only on one channel, though.

Well, since someone has to....  Does anyone still wear.... a hat?

In high school, a hamburger place in San Antonio called Jim's -- the best char-broiled burgers and some pretty good onion rings.

In Waco during my Baylor days, George's (for a mean chicken fried steak dinner and Big-O -- no, not that, you HHWers think everything is a euphemism -- a large, round frosty glass of beer). George's is still there and is still popular.

Does anyone know what was in that present that Michella Obama gave to Laura Bush?

I get most of my inaugural news here so this is the first I heard of it.  Is it common practice for the incoming first wife to give the outgoing one a gift?

I think I'll skip the long jog today - don't want to push myself when I'm not feeling up to snuff.  I've written five pages, and I think I'll take a hot shower now.

According to the latest reports: a leather-bound journal.

Yep, that's what Katie was saying -- embossed and with some nice pen so she could enter her post-White House memories for her memoir (all the commentators were going on about it being real nice, etc.)

Lots of stuff going on this morning.  I'm in the process of trying to license three titles for Kritzerland, but they each have an advance and it looks like they may want all three advances up front, which will be very difficult, as I wouldn't be able to put out the first of the three until March at the earliest.  I think they'll all sell out and be good for the label, but we'll just have to see how it all shakes out.  It's one cast album, and two soundtracks, none of which have appeared on CD before.

Also, the LACC doing Nudie is not looking as good as it was.  As it stood, I was going to have to raise the dough to do it.  But they can't do it the way they originally thought, so it's more like a rental, even though the department would keep the box-office take.  The sets and costumes would still be, I think, relatively free, as they have a scene shop and materials and a huge costume department, but the designers would not be free - when we originally spoke about it it was all going to be part and parcel of the department - a class would be created and that's how the faculty designers would have been paid - apparently, with all the red tape and cut backs the class thing is no longer possible.  They've tacked on a rental fee, and I just don't want to have to pay it.  It doesn't seem right to me.  It's not outrageous or anything, but it's going to make things much more difficult.

I'm discussing it with the LA Festival, just to get their thoughts and see if there are any other possible venues.  They really would like the show, and I really want to do it, but reality is reality, I'm afraid.

I hear Byrd is all right, but chose to leave when they took Kennedy out.

The snow is 90% gone now, but it still feels icy cold outside. Just walking to and from the restaurant at lunch was not pleasant.
