And thanks to DR FJL last night, I've been keeping an eye on my numbers and I now see that this is my "millstone" post.

So, here it is: #40,000.

While I was waiting for my ride to show up for lunch, I finished THE STARTER WIFE episode I had begun last night and then began the next one. Much as I love Hart Bochner, he is, alas, aging...just like the rest of us. :)

When I got back from lunch, I began my review work project of the day - the original FRIDAY THE 13th. The years have exaggerated in my mind the graphic gore content of the film. Yes, there are about eight murders, but you only see a couple happening with the blood effects. Most are either off-camera (and revealed later) or only the aftermath image for a few seconds only.

I guess it's the later ones in which the slashings become more or more graphic and in close-up. Of course, I think they had slightly larger budgets than this first one (which was made for $600,000).

I just watched the clip of Aretha Franklin.  I was expecting an outrageous hat.  I couldn't wear it but I thought it looked nice on her, & it matched her coat & gloves.

I went back and listened to the commentary. Critic Peter Bracke hosts the commentary which is pieced together from comments made by the director, writer, editor, composer, etc. Very informative and nice to know they don't have any pretentions about what they were doing. A cheap thriller made to exploit the huge returns being pulled in by HALLOWEEN.

I've watched two of the bonus documentaries. One was made at a FRIDAY THE 13th convention with Betsy Palmer, Adreienne King, Tom Savini, Victor Miller, and others taking part in a Q&A. The next were more comments by many of these same people about memories of making the picture.

There are still about three more bonus features on the disc. I should be able to finish those easily later this evening, especially since there's nothing on I want to see tonight apart from LEVERAGE.

Also, the LACC doing Nudie is not looking as good as it was.  As it stood, I was going to have to raise the dough to do it.  But they can't do it the way they originally thought, so it's more like a rental, even though the department would keep the box-office take.  The sets and costumes would still be, I think, relatively free, as they have a scene shop and materials and a huge costume department, but the designers would not be free - when we originally spoke about it it was all going to be part and parcel of the department - a class would be created and that's how the faculty designers would have been paid - apparently, with all the red tape and cut backs the class thing is no longer possible.  They've tacked on a rental fee, and I just don't want to have to pay it.  It doesn't seem right to me.  It's not outrageous or anything, but it's going to make things much more difficult.

I'm discussing it with the LA Festival, just to get their thoughts and see if there are any other possible venues.  They really would like the show, and I really want to do it, but reality is reality, I'm afraid.

It would mainly be tha dancing dildoes you'd have to create; wouldn't it?

DR Laura ~ How 'bout them Cards?!!  Go Red Birds!!!!!! Yea-ahhhh!!!

I'm pulling for the Cards even though they defeated the Eagles.

Aww, thanks, Dan (the Man). Knowing you are an Eagles fan, I was being low-key about it here.

I'm going to hop off-line now and get some writing done on what I've watched today. Then, I'll head back down to complete the review project and then go on to more enjoyable items.

Yes, the Dancing Dildo costumes would have to be built and designed.  I'm assuming they'd have a lot of the other stuff.  The real problem here is that I was led to believe this was not going to be a problem and the original way in which we were going to do it was very workable.  That all changed a couple of weeks ago, mostly because of the LA Community College budget cuts.  But I feel strongly that I'm not the only one who benefits from doing it there - the department benefits, too.  My fear is, that it's now going to be too late to "place" our show in another venue.

Wow--this sure is a long parade!

The good news--they released a statement that Sen Kennedy's brain seizure was due to fatigue.  I havent heard anything about Byrd.

I was wondering if they were the only ones who ate fish at the luncheon.

Aretha Franklin's hat seems to producing a lot of chatter.  I thought it was just a hat.

Sometimes these classic songs need a trained singer with some breath control; I love Aretha, but I swear she sang "My coun (breath) try 'tis of thee." I thought we were heading into blue territory for a minute and what the hell would the FCC think?

I was thinking the exact same thing! :o I had to rewind my DVR to make sure that she didn't break the word where I thought she had.

Great news and congratulations! ;D

Who would have thought Obama would be quoting Dorothy Fields' lyrics in his address?  Now all we need is Kern's music!

If "Happy Days Are Here Again" worked for Roosevelt, who knows?

After the election, the song that kept going through my mind was "Everybody Rejoice" from The Wiz. ;)

Big congrats to MattH on achieving his new plateau.  I've written a little over six pages and will probably do at least one more at some point.  I'm hoping I can put on a movie I don't care about and fall asleep.

I would like to ask for vibes and prayers for total strangers.

Yesterday on the flight home, I chatted with a young woman with a small infant. Her husband was being sent to Iraq on a later flight, and she was going to stay with her family while he was gone (at least that was what I gathered).

I am so sad that this young family is being separated. I told her that a small church in Arizona would be praying for her family, but I figured extra prayers certainly couldn't hurt anything.

So, if you are so inclined, please keep Tamara and baby Alyssa and Troy in your prayers. We'll never know how things turn out, but whatever higher power one prays to will know who we mean.

And, yes, I know that sentence was a grammatical disaster, and I don't care; it is from the heart.

~~~Super Vibes, Marimbas and Xylophones for Tamara and baby Alyssa and Troy!!~~~
