For DR Edi.

Johnny Mercer's "A-Huggin' and A-Chalkin" (1947) was banned for its suggestive lyrics.

Thanks to the posts from DRs who are up on such things - Amazon.com is now sending me a Rolls Royce. (I think they only have them in yellow).

Who needs TV when you can have a story from DR JRand.

DR LAURA all of the photos are great!  I am still trying to figure out if a train that doesn't run on tracks is really a train.

It has tracks. They run down the middle of the road.

Good news indeed DR Jennifer and thank you for the thoughts coming this way too.  I have to drive in 40 degree + heat tomorrow (about 40 minute drive) to have my tooth pulled or whatever.

It will be a great day.  We are expecting a price hike on petrol again - about 12 c a litre more - next week.

I'm full of joy this week.

I hope you are not driving yourself home!

"Deep In The Heart of Texas"

"This melody was so infectious that the BBC banned it from broadcasts during working hours. It was to prevent factory hands from using their tools for banging the machinery to keep time with the music"

Funny.  I'm curious as to why the other songs were banned.  "Paper Doll" I kind of get. When I think too much about the words I find them a bit "odd". ;D

DR Jane - re Paper Doll

This was not considered an appropriate song for wartime when the armed forces were separated from their loved ones: "We did not think it desirable to broadcast the song's theme of feminine faithlessness."

The basic rules for the BBC decisions were that sexually suggestive material would not be permitted, no popular songs based on classical standards unless the arrangement were acceptable - and certainly not swing band interpretations, any song that was quasi religious (or inspirational pop ballads).

Back in OZ we banned "The Battle Of New Orleans", Bobby Darin's "Mack the Knife", and Jackie Wilson's "Night".   "Love For Sale" had no hope of its being played in it's vocal form.

The song "Royal  Telephone" (Burl Ives) was also banned by many commercial radio stations.

Now I have images of all the men in the armed forces carrying round paper dolls. ;D
