JOYCE KILMER'S TREES

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were as lovely as a tree, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - I think that I shall just say wow if I should ever see a cow.

Thanks for the review of "Hamlet 2," BK.  I have not seen it.  I sort of wanted to see it, but I never did.  I'm sure now that I never will.

Topic of the Day:

In my CD player at work:  two different recordings of Hello, Dolly!...the Mary Martin and the Pearl Bailey versions that I just got from ArkivMusic.com.  I listened to both of them at work yesterday and I thoroughly enjoyed them. :)

In my DVD burner:  "Twentieth Century" with John Barrymore and Carole Lumbard.  I had never seen this and since it was on TCM, I recorded it.  I love the score to the musical version called, On the Twentieth Century.  The movie was funny and delightful.

Just recorded onto my DVD burner (to eventually be burned onto a DVD):  the recent PBS broadcast of "Cyrano de Bergerac" with Kevin Kline (who, coincidentally, was in the original production of On the Twentieth Century) and Jennifer Garner, making her Broadway debut.

The DVD is available for purchase, but I'll keep my free copy. :)

For 'Dollhouse' on Fox, the set is one of the stars
The two-story, 25,000-square-foot structure has some real personality.

If you were going to be held against your will in an underground asylum, where beautiful people would pamper you, erase your memory and imprint you with different personalities, you'd probably want your captor to be Joss Whedon.

The TV scribe-producer-director and filmmaker, known for his keen ability to draw female characters, has created a sanctuary on Stage 19 of the Fox lot that is so impressive in scope and detail that it hardly seems like a set for his new Fox series, “Dollhouse.” With its serene reflecting koi pond, unusual but comfy sleeping pods recessed into the floor and meditation-massage area, the house feels as if it belongs on a Laguna Beach bluff instead of on a soundstage.

THE DOLL: Eliza Dushku on the elaborate, 25,000-square-foot Fox set that cost $950,000.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION: The set for "Dollhouse" continues to be built at the FOX Studios in Century City.

SPACE TO SPARE: Production designer Stuart Blatt, who worked on “Angel,” says the “Dollhouse” set is the largest he’s built in his 20-year career.

READY FOR ACTION: The midcentury motif has a Japanese aesthetic, with a koi pond as the centerpiece and custom-made furniture

We had indeed stopped at the Joyce Kilmer rest stop (I kid you not) on the drive back from Philly the other night.

Or more accurately the Joyce Kilmer Service Area.  There is indeed a big sign announcing the name of the service area, just above the entrance.

I just have to mention that DR DAW, even in his food-poisoned state, managed to send what looks like a BD card to my DH. I'm sure when he gets home today and opens the mail he'll say: ""Singdaw always sends the nicest cards!"

Thanks, DAW!

I look forward to showing him everyone's birthday wishes as well!

I have a very busy social calendar this weekend full of dinners and football games. It actually began last night with a hockey game. So there is no time to watch any movies. Music will be at whim of the shuffle play on my Ipod.

I also saw SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE again - it is a very good movie, but I don't think everyone in the audience knew what he was about to see.

I also watched ROCK N ROLLA which ... well it had Gerard Butler in it, but Jeremy Piven also appeared, and I expected him to start singing "Fish."

Good Morning.

I will probably be listening to BBC at some point during the day. We have no plans for viewing at the moment.

Anthony is in the midst of preparing for departure (ETD February 6 after a trip to Long Island to retrieve the car).

Tomorrow I will file my federal taxes using the new system which actually takes the taxpayer into mind and lets him or her file without going through a software company.

I still can't file my state taxes electronically unless I'm willing to pay $13.95 or more because I make too much money and I'm the wrong age! Oh, please!!!

I'll fill out the form on the computer, print it out and mail it in for the cost of a $0.42 stamp, along with the amazingly dysfunctional form which summarizes my W-2 form. What a waste of paper. I don't care how it's explained, it's a pile of bull. I know it's supposed to make things faster and they can "scan" the information but do they not care about the enormous waste of time and paper??? Apparently not because they continue to require this stupidity.

I'm beginning to sound like Bruce with an early morning rant  ;)

That is all.

I filed my taxes electronically too, DR BEN....and for the first time I paid to file my state taxes as well.  We will see if it was done correctly.  Both were accepted, so we shall see.

Good morning!  Thanks to one and all for the broken legs last evening.  We had a relatively smooth preview last evening for an audience of about twenty five people.  Considering the small number of audience members, I was very suprised by the large number of laughs we received.   It was also the first time I can remember getting a standing ovation from a preview audience; although in all honesty, I believe the standing "O" was more for our leading lady's tour de force than for the entire cast.

Still, I am not exactly sure why I am up at 5:30 a.m. when I didn't get to bed until around twelve thirty.   I basically had a great deal of trouble actually going to sleep, and then, even more trouble, staying asleep.  So, when the cats asked for breakfast at around 4:00, I figured I might as well stay up.

Glorious news about the audience reaction, TCB!  The size of a preview audience likely reflects the marketing, but the reaction of the audience that is there obviously reflects well on the play and performances.

I had read that as "when the cast asked for breakfast at around 4:00, I figured I might as well stay up" - it took me aback for a moment.
