I am sad to hear about the Kentucky Repertory Theatre in danger of closing.....but a couple of things in the article bothered me - in addition to the facts.....

They have a subscription base of 500 and a budget of $600,000 - and they attract 30,000 people...and yet nobody gets "paid much."  And the artistic director says that a season of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "Hamlet" is unthinkable.

What the hell kind of plays do they do?  Did they do "High School Musical" last year?

I was looking at their website - the productions they have photos for certainly don't look like they spend a lot of money on values....but it is a professional theatre, so they do have Equity salaries....not much money, but a BIG bite of the budget, I'm sure.

Sorry the core actors and administrators and staff of eleven will lose their jobs....but maybe they can do "Cindersmella", "Cash on Delivery", and "Christmas Belles" someplace else.  Or maybe DR CP can go down there and straighten them out.

Maybe they should get Libby Appel in there to fix things up.....she and her relatives could use some of that $600,000!

Maybe I am just incredulous....and being unfair.....we have a subscription of over 800 people for 4 shows and a budget of about $58,000...and no one is paid anything.....

I just sent them $25 and I hope they survive!

I don't feel like 56.

What does 56 feel like ;)

I'd suppose it feels like 55, but with more attitude.  I'll find out in August.

Happy Birthday, Ben!

Workies.

I was supposed to have today off, but Miss Stacey asked me to come in today for a shift.  Still don't know why.

I'll be back (assuming der B lets me on when I get home again).

Jrand,

Though I've yet to see any shows at Horse Cave/Kentucky Rep, I know several people who have worked there and vaguely know the Artistic Director as we both came up through the same theatre department...though at different times (I, much earlier).  It has a good reputation...and it is never good news to hear that a theatre company is in financial straits (as so many of them are).  But they do seem in better financial shape than the theatre I'm involved with in Lexington...and I fear their fundraising might impact our own feeble attempts.  We certainly have not been able to summon the aid of Annie Potts or George Clooney or Ned Beatty.  Of course, George with one stroke of his pen could help us both out and probably never miss it.

Monday morning greetings!  The sun is out and it's a good thing, because I think I've just discovered that our furnace isn't running.  Hmm, Richard will have to take a look when he gets home from his exercising.

Good morning, all! Around 1:30 today I have to go to the East Side for an appointment with a doctor about a colonoscopy. Until then, it's another day of tallying receipts.

I know that today's birthday boy Ben has received my e-card and I will wish him again a wonderful day!
