I met my first boyfriend the summer I moved to Georgia. He had moved here from California a year earlier and we both felt a bit out of place here. I remember very clearly the first time I saw him. My mom and brother and I had driven to the Dairy Queen, one of the few places to go near our house. It was really out in the sticks then; now it's all developed.
My mom gave me a $20 to get their order and this cute guy was working at the window. When our eyes met it was really as though sparks went off. He gave me change for a $10 instead of a $20 and I didn't even notice the error, we were too busy looking at each other. I saw him there a few more times before school started, and then I was very happy to see that he went to my high school.
It took a little while before we went out. I dated a couple of football jocks who were older than me, and went on a few double dates. But my first official date with my boyfriend was to a movie. We weren't old enough to have drivers' licenses, so my mom dropped us at the theatre and his mom picked us up. He lived very close to my house! We went to see "Walking Tall"...pretty romantic, LOL!
I dated him for a year and a half and broke up with him to date a musician. I dated the musician for 5 years and left him for someone in his band, who became my husband #1.
Oddly enough, I've reconnected with my very first boyfriend via Facebook. We've caught up with everything, but his wife and I have been friends since college so she and I write to each other almost every day, and we may get together in the near future.
