And speaking of Johnny Mercer... Tonight's Michael Feinstein program at Carnegie's Zankel Hall was a Johnny Mercer tribute.  -There have been a number of Johnny Mercer tributes and Mercer-centric cabaret evenings lately in NYC.

Thank you, Jose! I will forward that on to my compadres on Team Mercer! Wish I could have been there!

I wonder if he did any of the songs he worked up for us? I sent sheet music to his apartment, so I have his address...

Here are the Program Notes from tonight's program.  If the program was "announced from the stage", then Carnegie Hall should update their site over the next 48 hours with the details.

Some things defy explanation.  I had a 45 record of Barbara Eden singing this song....but this video....well....I have no response....except I want a pair of those pants.

I was so exhausted that I curled up and fell asleep after dinner. I was hoping to work, but there were too many thunderstorms to keep the computer plugged in. When I woke up, my DH was watching the Jerome Robbins doc. I hadn't even told him about it.

I missed the first hour. We were watching on HD, and I wanted to see how it looked on the SD channel. There, it was broadcast in a 4:3 ratio, and instead of shrinking and letterboxing it to fit into 4:3, they just cut off the sides. So, everyone's ID titles were cut off. The PBS logo covered a lot of the ID's on both. The American Masters bug just barely fit on the 4:3 version. I wish they'd get this stuff figured out. The PBS red book of standards is about as thick as a bible, so this surprised me. I am curious about the viewing experience of others....

Here's something that came to my email from my alma mater:

25 Years of Show Biz

Anybody recognize anybody in the video?

Thanks for posting that!  I recognize quite a few people in that video.  -And I know a bunch of people flying back to UM for that concert.

The reading ended at about nine-forty and I had to go to Gelson's and get something to eat since everyone at the reading was a WUSSBURGER.  I'll tell all about the reading in the notes - it went well is the bottom line.

edisaurus, I'd ask Mandel what it was like the first time he heard Mercer's lyric.

We had a very bad day at work. The producer friend who I started the Mercer project with was coming over to see us at the edit room because her husband was there working on the budget with my assistant.

She came in and couldn't talk and then just started crying. She had received a text message as she was pulling into the parking lost that a friend of hers had been murdered. This was a long-time friend of hers, they'd been in a book club together for over 10 years. The victim was a nationally known cancer specialist and lived in a very secure penthouse in the best part of town. My friend was reading over my shoulder after I pulled up the news story and almost collapsed when they went into the cause of death details.

No one can understand how this could happen in a place with such high security; it makes you realize that nowhere is safe. This lady was selling her penthouse to move in with her fianceé (her husband died of cancer a few years ago) so this might have been someone posing as a buyer.

Anyway, it's been a horrible day and I'm sharing this story so you can send vibes to our friend---she really needs them.
