I'll be working today on PRIMAL FEAR. I haven't looked to see what bonus features are on the disc, but the film is less than two hours, so I hope to finish it and get it written up before I check back in at HHW for the show.

Oscar Predictions:

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE   (Would prefer THE READER)
Kate Winslet
Sean Penn  (would prefer Frank Langella)
Heath Ledger
Penelope Cruz

Ditto on all five categories plus I will go with Danny Boyle for SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.

Yes, DR der Brucer, those THE CLOSER episodes are the ones with "Elaine" who talked about herself in the third person. Loved the character and loved the episode.
That's also the episode with two other favorites: William Daniels and Paul Shulze

And speaking of THE CLOSER. The fourth season box set comes out in late May and is now available for preorder at Amazon. Can't wait to get these episodes to watch and enjoy all over again.

I jumped back on-line for a minute making sure the wireless connection downstairs was working properly for the party tonight. It seems to be OK though the browser is a bit slower than I'm used to.

DR Jane and others - thanks for your concern.  I am still waiting for the pain to arrive, but so far I am fine.  So that's good.     :)

That is very good, and with each day your chances all will be well improve-continued vibes.  Thanks for letting us know.

As for Oscar Predictions:

Here's who I would like to win:

Picture: "Slumdog Millionaire"
Direction: "Milk" - Gus van Sant
Supporting Actress: Marisa Tomei
Supporting Actor: Josh Brolin
Actress: *Kate Winslet for "Revolutionary Road" - I'm with you on this one, DR ArnoldMBrockman.  Otherwise, Anne Hathaway
Actor: Richard Jenkins "The Visitor"

Here's who I think should win:

Picture: "Frost/Nixon"
Direction: Gus van Sant
Supporting Actress: Viola Davis "Doubt"
Supporting Actor: Robert Downey, Jr. "Tropic Thunder"
Actress: Again, this should have been Kate Winslet for "Revolutionary Road".  Otherwise, I'll take the underdog, Melissa Leo "Frozen River"
Actor: Sean Penn "Milk"

And, finally, for who will win:

Picture: "Slumdog Millionaire"
Director: Danny Boyle "Slumdog Millionaire"
Supporting Actress: Viola Davis "Doubt" - This role just seems to have awards attached to it.
Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger "The Dark Knight"
Actress: Meryl Streep "Doubt" - but, truly, this could very easily to Kate Winslet for "The Reader" (with voters "subconsciouly acknowledging her performance in "Revolutionary Road")
Actor: Mickey Rourke "The Wrestler"

OSCARS:

Kate Winslet was nominated for the wrong movie. The Reader IMHO was a disappointment all around. Revolutionary Road was the One. However,Leonardo's performance in that movie was stunning'
I hope Meryl Streep wins for Doubt.

And, yes, it's too bad that the Leading Actor category could not have added a sixth slot this year for Leonardo di Caprio.  But it was nice to see that Richard Jenkins was recognized for his work in a "small" film that had come out earlier in the year.

It was also nice to see Melissa Leo get a nomination; I worked with her (and Valerie Bertinelli) on the tv movie SILENT WITNESS.

As for some of the other categories:

Foreign Language Film: "Waltz with Bashir"
Animated feature: "WALL-E"
Animated Short: "Oktapodi"*
Live Action Short: "Spielzeugland (Toyland)"*
Documentary Feature: "Man on Wire"*
Documentary Short: "Smile Pinki"*

Art Direction: "The Duchess"
Cinematography: "Slumdog Millionaire"
Costume Design: "...Benjamin Button" (maybe "The Duchess")
Makeup: "...Benjamin Button"
Film Editing: "Slumdog Millionaire"
Sound Editing: "The Dark Knight"
Sound Mixing: "The Dark Knight" - But would like to see "WALL-E" sneak in and take this one.
Visual Effects: "...Benjamin Button"

Adapted Screenplay: "Slumdog/Millionaire"
Original Screenplay: "Milk" - But this is another category where it could go any and either way for me. And for The Academy. ;)

Original Score: A.R. Rahman "Slumdog Millionaire"
Original Song: "Jai Ho" (A.R. Rahman) "Slumdog Millionaire"

*I did not see all of the "shorts" nominees, nor all of the documentary nominees.  But, for the first time in a long time, I actually saw all of the major motion pictures up for awards this year.

This is interesting, I thought The Reader was much better than Revolutionary Road

DR Jose, for Original Screenplay, do you, like me, think that the Academy is going to honor WALL-E?

Trying to decide whether to go out and dither away a few hours.  Since I'm paying for the rental car (plus insurance) I feel like I should get some use out of it.

I'm watching Man on Wire on my Roku Netflix instant viewer. They've upgraded the viewer to HD. I have to say buying it was really worth it.  They are also going to add more ways to get instant movies from other sources including Amazon rentals and apparently other sources as well.
