DR Elmore - isn't there a Rodgers & Hart song with a line that goes something like, "Everyone loves you when you sleep"? I'd like to recommend it to someone, but want to reference it correctly.

Ginny, that's a lovely song. I think it came from the same musical as "the Gentleman is a Dope," but right now, I'm not so sure. I'll leave it to the experts.

"Everybody Loves You" was cut from I'D RATHER BE RIGHT. It's one of my favorite Rodgers & Hart songs.

I am watching a very strange, yet wonderful, 1963 Bollywood film titled SUNHERI NAGIN (which translates: THE GOLDEN SNAKE WOMAN).

The movie is in black and white, except the musical numbers which are in color. There are flying snakes which turn into swords, ape men which terrorize people in a cave, flying snake men, and a snake with the head of a woman.

Mahipal and Helen are the stars, there are no subtitles, and a couple of reels seem to be out of order, but I have been totally entertained for the last hour and 1/2.

I read the other day that The Guiding Light is on its last legs. That show may be gone by September. Ratings have plunged. It would be a shame its be around in one form or another for over 60 years.

And I know DR Elmoore's pal Ron Raines is in the show.

By the way, in sad Hollywood news....old time western actor Monte Hale died of age related causes on Sunday in Studio City. He was 89.

Also on Sunday, actor Andy Hallett from the TV series ANGEL died of heart failure, at age 33 in Los Angeles. He had been diagnosed with a heart problem in 2004.

Tomorrow I need to hit the NYPL Theatre Collection to look for a photo of the gospel quartet in the 1947 FINIAN'S RAINBOW; the "music critic" on Castrecl insists ithe senator's change to a black man was offensive blackface and I'm curious to know what they did originally. Whatever it was had to be fast because the transformation time is about as long as Ella's transformation to Passionella in THE APPLE TREE and that's very fast!!!. Wouldn't it be fascinating if nothing were done and it was just assumed it had happened?

I am inundated with new CDs all of a sudden.

The good: the new Burt Bacharach, which I am loving. He's really working that minor 9 territory he likes so much on this one.

The bad: an incredibly bad Mancini Latin album I got on a whim. I am amazed that Henry could have done something this stink-worthy. The worst use of "basketball arena" organ I have ever heard. Percussion arrangements are great but, oh, man, that organ is horrible!

DR Elmore, I could swear I've seen a picture of the transformed senator in the original production and that he was in blackface but not of the minstrel show type. If I can remember where I saw the pic in a book I'll post it tonight. I have the feeling it might have been in a Tams Witmark catalog, in which case I more than likely threw it out.
