I then took out our recording of the Sherry title song - wow. elmore's orchestration is so great and so much better than the original - and, much as I love Mr. Lane and Miss Burnett, they don't hold a candle to the energy and delight of Jonathan Freeman and Christine Baranski - I laughed out loud as I listened - hadn't heard the track in years. And then I listened to the opening track, Smile, you know, the one with choreography and taps done ten years before Mr. Lipton and I just loved hearing it - such energy, such a terrific elmore orchestration, such a great Harry Groener vocal - and oh those Niki Harris taps. And I was actually shocked by how good it sounded - that was still pretty early in our recording life, Vinnie and me, but I didn't hear anything I would change and the band sounds fantastic. The only disappointment on that CD, mix-wise, is Disneyland (elmore can tell you the horrifying story of THAT), and it's something I rectified when I did On My Own with Michelle Nicastro - it's a hidden track on there, and the mix is so much better.
