Good evening, after reading today's posts;

Thanks for the links everyone, watched and read.

Enjoyed the pics, always.

Dear Jose, the Spoleto poster is great.

BK, the AT&T internet has never been down.

Will have to go back and listen to the radio show and read Pogue's new page.

note for my weekend:  Look for Unsung Sondheim in cd rack. (Marilyn Cooper).

Can't put anything in a pipe and smoke it, gave them all to the ex's brother in 2002.  There were some really nice hand carved pipes from the 70's I should have kept.

We picked up the Vixter and went out to our local Diner, which we have dubbed "The Diner that Never Gets It Right".  We have never been there without one of our orders coming slightly differently than asked for.

For instance the Vixter wanted a burger and fries.  Well the Diner includes a bowl of coleslaw, a couple of pickles, onion rings a large portion of lettuce and three thick slices of tomato with that meal - all of which  we know and none of which the Vixter will eat.  We hate to see the food wated (it is very nice food there - the burger buns are baked there fresh every day) so we always request please JUST the burger and the fries, please do NOT bring anything else, it will just be wasted

But when her meal came lo and behold there were all the trimmings.  It was a real shame because of course once it comes out of the kitchne and is served they have to discard it.

Hmmm... I'm thinking I might take a little "vacation" in Chicago after I get back from Charleston and before I go to the Philippines.  Hmm...

I ahd the stuffed mushroom appertizer as my meal tonight-   three baby portabella mushrooms overstuffed with crabmeat - and it was nice and crabby , not  full of breading.

They were so big I ate just one and brought the other two home to reheat under the broiler tomorrow

I'm listening to this thing, this "cast" album called Sherry - and reading the astonishing booklet notes by James Lipton, who makes this comment - something along the lines of "I do believe this is the first album to ever had a choreographer."  Oh?  Really?  What's that album called Unsung Musicals, produced in 1993 with a CREDIT on its opening track that reads Choreography and Taps by Niki Harris?  And I was hardly the first to do it, although I think I was the first to assign a credit like that right on the track listing alongside the singers.  But Lipton's ego knows no bounds so I'm sure it makes him happy to think he's the first (or maybe the album's producer told him that - it wouldn't surprise me) - nothing surprises me - not even the fact that a sixty-seven piece orchestra is being used on a theater score - and sounding like a pit band of twenty.  This is a show I was going to record and reconstruct with its composer, who'd loved our version of the show's title song - until the original orchestrations were found by the album's producer, and that was that.  In the end, I think I did the studio cast album of a flop that I should have - Drat! The Cat!  We didn't have an orchestra of sixty-seven, but we did have a theater-sized orchestra that sounded like a million bucks.

I put on the final DVD of the Kevin and Sean show and was rather amazed to find a crappy looking transfer and not the latest and final cut and the nice sound mix that I approved sounding harsh and ugly and distorted.  I think you can imagine the sort of e-mail I sent out - our editor is really going to have to explain to me how this happened.  It's not what we did the commentary track to, and when we heard the mix in the bay two nights ago, it sounded great.  One problem is that he burned our DVDs in his computer, which means he probably did Quick Time - but regardless of that, I was not seeing the color-corrected up-rezzed video and I just don't get it.  I told the editor (in an e-mail and voice mail) that we had to resolve this tomorrow - Kevin sent him a strong e-mail, too, and unfortunately sent along the e-mail I'D sent Kevin, which was much stronger even than my e-mail to the editor.  I don't care, though, because this is amateursville and I have every right to react strongly.

Not really.  I've just been wanting to get back to Chicago for a visit.  And I just happened to be chatting with some friends from college this past week who are now living in Chicago... And with A Chorus Line, Mary Poppins and Jersey Boys in town... And Curtains running at the Drury Lane Oakbrook... Well...  We'll see...

I then took out our recording of the Sherry title song - wow.  elmore's orchestration is so great and so much better than the original - and, much as I love Mr. Lane and Miss Burnett, they don't hold a candle to the energy and delight of Jonathan Freeman and Christine Baranski - I laughed out loud as I listened - hadn't heard the track in years.  And then I listened to the opening track, Smile, you know, the one with choreography and taps done ten years before Mr. Lipton and I just loved hearing it - such energy, such a terrific elmore orchestration, such a great Harry Groener vocal - and oh those Niki Harris taps.  And I was actually shocked by how good it sounded - that was still pretty early in our recording life, Vinnie and me, but I didn't hear anything I would change and the band sounds fantastic.  The only disappointment on that CD, mix-wise, is Disneyland (elmore can tell you the horrifying story of THAT), and it's something I rectified when I did On My Own with Michelle Nicastro - it's a hidden track on there, and the mix is so much better.
