TOD - Cincinnati's famous deli is

Izzy's

My favorite thing to order is beef barley soup and half a Reuben. It comes with a potato pancake, of which I only eat the crispy edges.  Each table has a crock of sauerkraut and a crock of dill pickles.  My mouth is watering just writing this.

When DR DAW was visiting last July and I got to meet Jayson, we went to David's on Geary -- and I had a crock of DAW sitting across from me....munching on chicken livers!

Well, I really have only been here at work for four hours, but I'm leavening now.  I'm going to see Grease in Seattle and I need to get gas and run a couple of errands.

That's not very kosher of you....

Good 7:30-ish AM/PM!!!!

I'm up, I'm up... And I have a feeling my 70-year old aunt is going to tire me out later today.

It's another bright(!), sunny(!!) morning here in Manila.  I just made a pot of coffee, and believe the Starbucks here don't slightly over-roast there beans like they do in the States.  It tastes very smooth. Or maybe I just didn't properly use the coffee maker here. Or maybe I didn't put enough ground coffee in the basket.  Or maybe  it's just because I'm in Manila.

I am still looking for a Darna movie.

Shapiro's in Indy.....the potato salad!  And the pastrami.

I read that as Shapiro's in Italy, which seemed a long way to go for potato salad (unless it is really good).

Maybe it's because the Manila Starbucks is closer to where the beans are grown and they're "fresher"?

I want to know what it is with these damned banks holding checks for far too many days while they drag as much interest out of my payment before they decide to turn it over to me. I swear the asses at Sovereign Bank are sittiing on a lot of my money longer than they should, and I am very unhappy about it.

Larry, I, too, have found this most aggravating. There is no question that they use the "float", ie use your money to make money for themselves--and, IMO, carry it to the extreme. I sometimes do a wire transfer, which accomplishes two things: (1) my money usually transfers the same day, and (2) I have access to the funds immediately. It costs me $20, but sometimes it's just worth it. There's also an ABA transfer, which takes several days, but is free. I don't know if either of these options will work for you, but those are the only work-arounds I've found.

We find it equally frustrating.  In today's high speed processing of checks this is completely unnecessary.

We sometimes speak to the manager & get it waived, or at least get a portion of the funds released sooner.

I get the most angry when they put a hold on a check coming out of Merrill Lynch Trust Account and going into my regular checking account.  Like I am going to write myself a bad check?

Well.. I opted for one of their Central America blends... but I guess that's at least on the same side of the equator - or at least closer to it.

OMG!

We're watching "Umagang Kay Ganda"...

The current segment: "Morning Jamming..."

Today's featured guest: "Internationally known Aisaku" - ???

His song: "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday"

...And they lyrics are scrolling along the bottom of the screen so that the viewers at home can "jam" - sing - along!

Nothing political, but just because it rhymes, in honor of Miss California Carrie Prejean:

I’m just wild about Carrie
The real Prop 8 beauty queen
She’s earned her laurels
For those morals
Peachy and preachy keen

She says that she can’t remember
The things she did at sixteen
But I’ll remember you Carrie
Since California
Chose to adorn ya
A real prop 8 beauty queen

(chorus)
Yes, we’re just wild about Carrie
That real prop 8 beauty queen
That fake endowment
Showed what “wow” meant
Right on our TV screen

Her photos may have seemed sordid
The Lord knows they’re squeaky clean
Yeah, we’re just wild about Carrie
‘Cause if you’re opposite
(Oops, let’s pop a zit)
She’s a real beauty queen!!!

(dance break)

Yeah, we’re just wild about Carrie
She’d never judge us
She’d only nudge us
Right off the national scene!

Here's how the Samsung BD player apparently works - they have a function called BD-wise, which automatically inputs the resolution of the DVD itself to the TV - so if it's standard DVD that's what it outputs (if I'm reading correctly).  If you turn off BD-wise, then you can choose how to upconvert, but I have no idea if I'm interpreting any of this correctly.  Interestingly, the new amplifiers they sell also upconvert from standard DVD players - so that must work fine, yes?  All my stuff is seven years old, and I think we all know how antiquated electronic gear gets in seven years.  Only speakers seem to survive the onslaught of changes.

And here's where we're going tomorrow:

Villa Escudero

We're supposed to have lunch by the river tomorrow.  Well, more like on the river, since our feet will supposedly be in the water while we eat. :)

Thanks, DR Jane - It really has been a great visit.  There's so much I want to remember, to photograph, to write about.  Of course, taking the time to take pictures and write things down takes time away from doing things with my family, so... But I have a feeling when I fly back to the States on Saturday, I'll be doing some writing during the four(!) flights we have to take to get back.
