Here's my dad who was stationed in the Phillipines during World War II.

Was there a "Jap" (using the parlance of the day) in there taking that picture?  Lawsy, what an intense stare!  :)

Here's a question for you frequent movie-goers.  We're going to see STAR TREK this afternoon, and one of the listings for it says "OC--STAR TREK".  What could that "OC" stand for?

Just saw a video audition for a Rosie candidate.  She's real cute and with some direction could probably do it.  Don't know about star quality but for the reading she might be fine - but I'm supposed to get some other candidates in the morning and we'll have auditions Wednesday or Thursday for those and then I'll decide.  But this girl was very good - she's a former B'way Penny Pingleton from Hairspray, so the vibe seems right.

 ;D

Wouldn't that have to be in front of every listing, then?

My mother's sister Jean, after her marriage broke up around 1941, became a WAC. I know very little about her military career. Around 1945, my grandfather afer a falling out with my hometown's steel corporation over a patent ownership, ended up working in Seattle, where he suffered a major stroke. My aunts Jean and Dorothy went to Seattle to bring him back to Ohio and found that sleeping cars on trains were requisitioned by the military for wounded soldiers. My Aunt Jean used her military clout to get my grandfather a bed on an eastbound train. He died in 1948, but his ghost appeared quite frequently during the 1950s and 60s.

Looking for these photos, I found one of me around the age of three. My summer fashion sense hasn't changed in 60 years!

Here's my mom and dad on their weddng day. My dad served on the USS Ranger, an aircraft carrier that was reported sunk three times in the South Pacfic. I don'y know how my mom got through the war.

Happy to report the Ranger was never sunk.  In fact, USS Ranger was homeported at Naval Air Station, North Island (Coronado), San Diego when I was on USS Kitty Hawk in 1992-93.  One of the saddest sights I ever saw was USS Ranger, sometime during summer 1993, pulling out of her homeported berth for the final time as a skeleton crew (i.e., only a scant few men) stood on her flight deck as she was taken to NAS North Island for "mothballing."

OK, folks, if it gets cold again here in the Midwest, you can blame me.  I just packed away the sweaters and turtlenecks for the summer!

The sun came out, I did the easy breezy long jog, and now I'm doing some corrections on the Nudie music - and there are a LOT to do.

No, my mother's sister was named Ruth.  She never married, althogh she and another woman bought a house together where they lived for over 25 years.
