Dear Michael S:  I did make reservations for both Monday and Tuesday night.  I will be there no matter what happens.

Although I did have to stop myself from singing some of the songs at work last week.

Hi DAW!  How is HHW's best-looking gay married man?  Well, probably the only unless Matthew and his partner took the plunge; or maybe Fred and Skip took a trip to New England?

We live in California, remember??   LOL

I need to drive to Burbank, I think the Nudie cd is going in the car with me.

I can't wait till next week to hear the new songs.

Talk to ya later, and hopefully catch up on yesterday and the day before.

DR DAW the scariest part of that article was the director's comments in the last paragraph.

I agree.

It was a beautiful spring day here (something we never say in June!), and I spent much of it outside.

I just finished watching THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. What a fantastic movie! I cannot believe I have never seen this film before. Now I have to buy the DVD. Absolutely fantastic!

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!

TOD:  I think I got the internet in 1997.  I was quite leery of it; fearful that someone could come on and steal my files.  The first thing I did on the internet do a search of myself, of course!

Yes, one of the greats, and the DVD is a beautiful trasnfer, too. I just rewatched it a couple of months ago.

I have not seen the new GODFATHER restorations on Blu-ray. I reviewed the DVDs when they came out some months ago, and while I thought they were definitely improvements on the previous release, they still didn't wow me. (III looked by far the best of the three.)

I began my evening rewatching THE SEVENTH SEAL, this time on Blu-ray. Exquisite encoding, and I liked that the contrast wasn't dialed up too intensely. It looked perfect to my eyes, very natural looking.

I checked out all the bonus features, too, to see if they were in high def. All of them were, either in 1080i or 1080p.

I finished the episode of NCIS that I started, the one with Ziva working undercover trying to locate the other part of the two man team who was killing wives of Marines who were being unfaithful to their husbands. I had forgotten the identity of the guilty party, so that was a nice discovery when the revelation finally came.

I was determined tonight to choose something to watch for fun from my stack of unwatched HD-DVDs. It's not a huge stack (the Blu-ray stack is three times as high), but most of the movies I have not watched yet are very long: GRAND PRIX, BABEL, SEABISCUIT. But in the stack I did have THE KINGDOM, and so that's what I watched tonight.

It's a very good political thriller/procedural with Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner, Jeremy Piven, and Richard Jenkins. Thoroughly enjoyed it though, of course, it was quite violent.

To conclude my evening of viewing, I cracked open season four of THE CLOSER. I had rewatched the season premiere the other day off TNT-HD, so I started with the second episode with the man run over twice by the same car. I did remember the identities of the perps, but it was still a very enjoyable episode. I'm going to enjoy making my watch back through season four whenever I get a break from my reviewing duties.

I'm back from seeing Charlotte play Sian in a peculiar British black comedy that reminded me of Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf mixed with a lot of British black comedy and absurdist theatre, DINNER by Moira Buffini. When the play began, I thought of Joe Orton and his elevated comic dialogue combined with blood and violence, and when the uninvited guest Mike showed up, I thought, Hmmmmmm, Harold Pinterland. I'm not sure I liked the play much although I laughed at the outrageousness of it all, knowing that we were heading to something violent at the end. It reminded me a bit of Mark Ravenhill's play (I'm loathe to call it a comedy) Shopping and Fucking, which made me laugh but I felt was an unsatisfying piece of playwriting, but I spent a lot of time wondering why this play was the selection for the Horace Mann graduated students; perhaps because thet got to say a lot of profanities and be outrageous? Overall, the play required more mature actors and I think I'd still be apathetic after laughing at its deliberate attempts to shock.

The nice thing was that Charlotte's mother Dona flew back early from Portland, ME, where she directs the Potrtland Opera Company, and Charlotte's wonderful godmother Celia Weston came along as well. We were joined at the school by Chalotte's best gay friend Gregg, who's attending the Joffrey School of Ballet.

Good Evening!

My day in a nutshell:

I walked here.  I walked there.  And I even walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. And then back again.

As for the Topic of the Day...

I seem to remember my parents buying a computer for the house when I was a junior or senior in high school, so that would have been around 1985-86.

Prodigy was my first connection to the internet.

And I've have to say that my first true World Wide Web experience happened in the computer labs during my freshman year at college.

I  bought some Beef heart last night at the grocery store because it was quite inexpensive. I have been trying to find an easy recipe to use for the crock pot. So far everything seems to require ingredients I don't have and really don't want to have to purchase. Oh, well.

Beef Heart Stew

INGREDIENTS
1 medium beef heart, rinsed and cubed
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large onion, peeled and sliced
1 cup water
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt

DIRECTIONS
Dredge the beef heart in flour until coated. Heat the oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Fry the pieces of heart until browned. Stir in onions and water. Season with salt and seasoning salt. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 2 to 3 hours, or until the meat is very tender. Serve over noodles or mashed potatoes.

Place in Bosco's bowl.

As for my first purchase off the internet...  Hmm...

As far as e-Bay is concerned, I bought one thing about ten years ago - a gift for Steve.  However, I do remember helping a friend "snipe" in a computer lab one time before that.  She had four of us checking the prices during the closing seconds of the auction.

DR MBarnum - You can also just braised the beef hearts in some red wine.  Just season with salt, pepper and whatever else you have, like in the cupboard.  Just throw the in the pot, cover them with red wine, bring to a boil, then lower to a simmer... Cook until edible. ;)

Back from the All That Chat party and a dinner afterwards at Rachel's (where even jesse21 had time to join us).

Much to my surprise and delight,  a fellow who goes by NYCJoshua with whom I've found myself sparring on the chat board reminded me that online temperaments can be deceiving.  He turned out to be loads of fun in person.

I also finally got to meet Matt Windman, who was singlehandedly responsible for getting the momentum going on people watching my FISH "Jeremy Piven parody" video by posting it to his AM New York blog, from whence it spread like so much fish.

A talented lady named Leasen Almquist, accompanied by Michael Lavine, performed a very clever parody ditty by Bob Gutowski.

And I was overjoyed that Nancy Opel performed one of my parody ditties, accompanied on piano by Skip.
