CAST ALBUMS
« on: June 21, 2009, 12:31:19 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes had good reverb and were well recorded, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently listening to the new cast album of West Side Story and thinking "That doesn't sound very MOOsical."

bk, in one of the Tony "pre-shows" that aired in the NY area, they did a small segment on the recording of the new West Side Story.  They were interviewing one of the producers of this new album, and he went to great pains to say that kids nowadays with their iPods expect the sound to be "in your face," with no "space" around it.  So that was his goal.

I guess he succeeded.

Dumb.     :-\

Today is the Capital City Pride!  TAO and "Romeo & Juliet" will have a booth (we have t-shirts!!) and will hand out posters and flyers, trying to drum up business for the show.  With two men playing both Romeo and Juliet, the Capital City Pride event is the perfect place to advertise!  We all (the cast and crew) need to be there by 12:30...which is right in the middle of the parade! :o So, I'd better plan on leaving for downtown by 11:30 just to find parking!

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!  "Eli Stone" didn't record! >:( I checked my DVR before I left my house this morning and it was set!  AND the series recording is still set to record the other episodes.  I know I can watch it on-line, but I was going to record the last three episodes for a couple of friends, for whom I also recorded "Pushing Daisies."

Did anyone record last night's "Eli Stone?" :-\

Good morning, all! I have to be at Toyland by 10 so I will be out of here very shortly. This could be a long day; we'll see.

Another night of strange dreams; I only remember a bit about talking to a recording star about doing a Christmas arrangement for her and a peculiar dream involving apartment troubles with a broken door or window - I cannot recall now - for me and a roommate. I have honestly no idea who this roommate may have been.

I miss my dad. Happy Father's Day to him.

Yes, I have read the notes and they were indeed very informative and very honest and very, very true.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ONE AND ALL.

I was missing my Dad last night at work, when told that our restaurant's owner was attending a private party at Big Ben's - the Steeler, not the edifice - whom I had met just shortly after Dad's death.  Two days I later, I met former Steeler Franco Harris.  I knew that Dad was somewhere watching those meetings (if not arranging them) and smiling.

I love cast albums......especially the ones that made me feel like I knew what the show was about, and I could imagine what was happening onstage....

GYPSY, BYE BYE BIRDIE, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, WEST SIDE STORY - such fun...and STILL such fun.  I ordered the CAST ALBUM of BBB just last week.  I don't have it on CD, and with the revival looming, I wanted to hear the original a few more times before it was "improved" with new people.....like John Stamos and Gina Gershon, and John Irwin, who's charm escapes me, sorry DR EDISAURUS....  The clips I saw of Irwin and Kathleen Turner from WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF seemed to be two second raters tossing one liners back and forth....Albee is NOT Neil Simon....I don't think.

I think I shall skip purchasing the new WSS cd.

Never mind....I just realized who Andre de Shields is.....maybe he and Bill Irwin should do a show together.

Damn! I wish I could help you, DR George, but I forgot to record it myself. Ah, well, I'll have to wait for the inevitable DVD set to see it. Now that I missed that episode, I likely won't watch the other two either and will just wait for the DVDs.

After I saw the national touring companies of both THE SOUND OF MUSIC and CAMELOT, I rushed out to get those cast albums, and even though the stars were totally different, I felt as if I were on the front row of the theater watching the whole show again.

Those albums CAPTURED the feel of the show better than any cast albums I can remember. Add MAME to the mix, and you have what I consider the three best recorded cast albums ever.
